swaping gearboxs: kombi into type 3?

Hi All,

The gearbox in my 1968 type 3 Square is on the way out and I was wondering if it's possible to replace it with a 5 speed Kombi gearbox.
The word on the street is I can but I'm not sure if I'm listening to the right people on the street :)
Any advice would be extremely helpful

Cheers
Lethal

yes, but the ratios would be all wrong, way to low for a type three and putting it in would involve some fabrication. you are better off using an Lbug 4 speed box with the 3.88 ring and pinion. much better on the freeway with this gearbox. this tranny should bolt straight in. the only thing that might need doing is drilling the shift rod for the grub nut to go on the bottom.
