Whinning under pressure

Well what is it?
T3 Caravelle any gear but more noticeable in 3-5, only under pressure.
Maybe only because i wind out 3-5 more but then it is a constant whinning at 100k's, so.
Been doing it for about 2months and hasnt got any worse, but would like some points of view..Cheers
Throwing it out there incase someone else has had same symptom

Road speed? or gear speed?
Sounds like a crook pinion bearing in the gearbox if it is road speed.

Oil Levels are ok, throwing a little bit of oil out of driveshaft seal, nothing major..But yes probably need doing. = time, daily driver, kiddie wagon etc.
Wheel bearings?? Maybe but noise is only under accel, some movement but nothing over normal.

Road speed, havent put it on the jacks and run in air yet.
I was trying to avoid the pinion word...Shit, Not another bill.

Was thinking of throwing in some full synthetic Gl4 and see if this doesnt correct the prob?

Moly additive OR synthetic oil...??

Yes,
I'd go for the synthetic oil in the transmission..

it can't hurt...

alternatively, You can give the transmission a big dose of Molydebenium disufide.. [recommended]

My transmission was V V noisy due to new hypoid oil attacking the bushes in the transmission over ten years..
after a big dose of Moly, the noise has reduced and reduced to now, its a bit of a whine now and then..

I have another transmission to go in, and its filled with Castrol syntrax 75/90 sythetic oil...

best of luck..

Lee

You will be waisting your money changing the oil, Fix the pinion bearing before it kills the ring and pinion.

I killed a pinion bearing in my T3 ute coming home from Warwick, and the Syncro I am doing up had a crook one too, they are being repaired now.

Yeh thanks Menangler U like spending my money dont U:lol:

As Lee has suggested i am thinking along the lines of a Oil refresh, but as Menangler has said it could be a waste of time.

Ok heres the happy medium, take the vehicle into local VW mech, mostly works on air cooled cooled versions but none the less he loves his 72sbug and drives it everyday. So at least he loves the dub. Have him diagnose and or add his two cents worth.
Still do the Full Syn oil after Pinoin bearing is fixed, hopefully it is only the pinion bearing and nothing major, almost got the syncro roadworthy, and i need the dollars to get it on the road..
Might b lucky and it is only the driveshaft seal and a top up of oil.
Not really able to take it off the road, but i suppose i best take it off the raod before it takes me off the road.
Cheers Gang

Well progress. what a mission of a weekend.
Anyway, Dumped about 4litres out of Gbox; nothing majorly scary in there in fact the oil was in decent shape dark caramel but not black. Threw in some GL4 synthetic but wont know if it made a difference until i sort out the Fuel Tank pin holes. Couple of days.
If fuel tank doesnt patch up does anyone in Aus sell/stock them new? 89 T3 caravelle/transporter 2.1ltr ahh opening size is ????? will get back if needed.
I figure if it has to come out then i am putting in a new one, not wasting time on resealing the old on or having a patch job done.
Did i say what a weekend; shit, spent two full days underneath the caravelle no joke saturday and sunday....
