questions from a new 1972 super bug owner

Hi Everyone this is my first vw.
my new bug is unregistared and I dont know where to start to get it fixed it needs new cables for the hand brake. I have a little leak in the engine and I have two igniton switches and two petrol gauges and both gauges dont work.

it cost me $999.00

I have brought it to do it up slowly as a hobby car and I just am stumped on what to do first.

plus you will get a kick out of this everyone does. because I cant drive a manual I have to learn how i've been driving auto's untill now.

Has what I think is surface rust on the inside near driver door hinges.
No holes that I can see will that be easy to fix being I am a complete car novice and tool novice I know what a hammer and a drill is and that's it.

Hi all,
well I now know how to drive a manual.
His name is NEKO and he will onday be a purple with white trim.
At the moment he is in the garage under tarps due to him braking down up a hill in peak hour traffic about 6 weeks ago after I just got him new hand brake cable and back drum and brake refited and a new speedo cable and a ride home on a tow truck:).

Just thought i keep everyone updated.
Going to the volksday next sunday to buy some parts and have a look around.
talk to you all soon Spinner.:fakesniff:

Good on you Spinner:tu: you are going to either love your VW or hate it...you have come to the love site. I'm doing up a 72 bug at the moment which has been sitting in my backyard for 4 years:rolleyes: and the good news is everything is fixable...just takes time and money. good luck with yours:cool:

NEKO UPDATE

NEKO UPDATE from the (23/11/08)

Removered:
Left running board
Both front inducator.
Both Headlight.
Left front fender.
Front Bumper bar.

discovered on left lower front quater panel near bottom passanger door a rust hole where two bolts go to connect the fender to the body just near the passanger door bottom left corner.
after the shock.
gave it all a good clean with a wire brush and took photo's so I can see the damage up close later on and for documentation perposes.

Replaced the fender and started on the other side.

Semi-removed right hand front fender. well removed four bolts out of six then ran out of time.

I can only work on the car during weekends being it's at my folks house and last saturday we had to many rain storms to try and get there so it was just sunday and he is outside under a shad cloth roof and has a car cover on him so it is hard to work on when raining.

Next weekend:

Total removal of right front fender to access damage (suspect rust in right lower quater panel).
Remove running board on right side.
Remove chrome from hood and front quater panels.

Well Neko update: 29/06/10

It's been far to long on everything at this stage.

I have hand stripped 90% of his shell just got fenders and bonet and hood and around front window to do with paint stripper.

I am replacing all wiring so I have ripped out the wiring in the bonet and stripped the dashboard ready for stripping having trouble removing the sterring column from inside the cab its unbolted and have no steering wheel or turning signals it just wont budge I dont think it's been off ever.

Now I have to deal with that as well as removing the wiring and front struts as well as doors so I can seperate the body from the frame hoping to get started on welding it before christmas.
