18 inch under stock guards?
G'day
Is it possible to fit 18x8 rims underneath stock guards?
http://www.wheelenhancement.com/index.php?t=WheelDetail&id=214
wanting to fit these to my 67' deluxe bug, still waiting on reply on offsets but would imagine over +45 like most porsche wheels, what would be
needed to get these under the stock guards?

i had 18x7.5 under stock gaurds but that was on a superbug
i tried them on my 1500 bug for a bit and it had barely any steering
u would def need a fairly narrow front end if u want a turning circle better than a bus

When puting low profile tyres on with 17-18" wheels on a beetle or buggy, wont this make a rough ride ? Is a different type of suspension needed ?

I don't think it would be a good idea for me to post up my offsets as I have 4 wheel disc brakes and they alter the wheel track from factory
settings. So due to this, the offsets would be totally wrong for someone that has factory front disc brakes and rear drums.

Hi Joel...you are the minister for everything my
daughter has a 71SB and i want to spruce it up a bit for her...don't want to replace the 14's so ican see how the 4x100 works and theres plenty of
them around. Do you think 17x7 et 40 would work? cheers

thats the perfect combo with 205/40 tyres for 3 bolt supers
its the main 17" width and offset for all late 80s to current FWD small to medium mainstreamers so they're easy and cheap to get
i never pay more than $500-$600 for a set with good tyres
the only thing you will have to do though is get some narrow coil struts for up front
a mod that would be right up you alley to achieve this is EF honda civic hatch or CRX rear springs and cups
rears are fine altho most times the center caps dont fit cos of the VW axle nut

Would the same apply for a 76 bug? I was originally thinking of converting to a Porsche stud pattern. While Porsche wheels would be nice, they are
certainly pricey.

you'll need new disks/drums studded to to what ever pattern you choose
Just make sure the new disks/drums have the same thickness throughout the area, where the studs will go
Cheers

Cool,
am i best off getting the disks/drums from vw parts people or specialist brake shops? i'm stuck over in WA and shippings normally expense. Will prob
go for late model japanese type pattern as Joel mentioned.

just do some window shopping for rims first and see which stud pattern crops up the most commonly with the rims you like
i went for 4x100 cos at the time i had 3 other cars with that pattern that i used to switch rims around with
but these days i wish i'd gone for 5x100
