Recognise these brakes?
These are fitted to a karman I've got hidden away to eventually do up for my wife...thought I might thieve the brakes for my buggy- just dont know
what they are from or if the conversion is any good (I'm assuming his was a kit) The handbrake cable setup looks pretty hokey. Anyone know?
Also, whats the story with dual rear spring plates ? Is this something to do with the swap to IRS? I've never seen a setup like this

twin spring plates was a late type3 thing and some late beetles
i had them on my black bug and hated them
makes so much more work when lowering the rear
means u have to disconnect the axles
i cant see that on a street car there would be any benefit in them
millions of beetles havent had problems so far in 30+ years

Semi auto beetles had the twin spring plates as did Type 3 Autos....they are an UPGRADE to the single plate system as they are stronger and a must on
the buggy!!!!!!! Not sure about the brake setup...but you might as well use it!! No more sand in the drums dramas...

wont be able to pinch the twin spring plates of the karman, I can nab the brakes though and get her a good set when the time comes.

Dont know if this helps but they look similar to the ford econovan brakes I had on a vw a while ago,was a very common conversion back in the day

Those rears are one of John Sherman's kits... uses a FIAT caliper I think.
Pretty much the same as what I've got on the back of Jezebel... works reasonably well, but I'm still planning on going up to 944T brakes all round.

I run Shermans on my buggy and have no dramas with them at all. I actually prefer them over the Ford setup....
