EJ22 Swap Clutch Selection
Still gathering parts for my EJ22 swap into a 1972 Super Beetle and am looking for suggestions on a clutch setup. I am considering a Kennedy setp but
am not sure which stage (I, II, or III) pressure plate to get and am also unsure on which clutch will be appropriate. The car will be mainly for
spirited street driving with a more than occasional trip to the drag strip. Thanks in advance! |

Thanks Brad, that answers one of my questions as well, won't need to sell my new 215mm one then.
I'm sure that volks conversions do the EJ flywheel in 215mm, does anyone else? ..... most seem to only advertise 200 and 228.
Cheers Luke

Custom vee Dub do one as well.
You just need to make sure that you specify that you want a 215mm Flywheel to suit type 1 Transmission. The Custom Vee Dub ones use metric bolts as
opposed to Imperial like the Volks Conversions ones. Usually the CVD ones are balanced as well but if you already have a clutch then the can't do
it.
The thing with the EJ 22 is that because of the power curve clutch slipage isn't a real issue. I ran a stock 228mm clutch in both the Dual cab, the
Geko and the T3 and have never had it slip. I have broken some CV's and sheared some axles :> but no clutch slipage

How about the 200mm though? The adaptor flywheel I have is for the stock beetle 200mm setup |

200mm on an EJ 22 if it is a stock 200mm clutch and presure plate will slip.

Which clutch and pressure plate do you recommend for a 200mm setup? |

From the research I've been doing you'll need something like a Kennedy stage 1 for a NA engine.
If you look on the Kennedy site a stock 215mm pressure plate has the same clamping pressure as their stage 1 200mm, so if Brad says the 215mm is fine
I'd be guessing this should be all you need.
If you do a bit of reading around here I think you'll find that you don't won't to over do it pressure wise, or it will be a b###h to drive.
