Newly purchased 1960 Bute

Hey guys,

Since selling my beloved type3 square, i was in the in the market for another car. My dream VW has always been the 58 -> 60 beetle but it would be a little inpractical for me as I compete in Downhill MTB races and I need to move my bike around.

Because of that, I was looking for a late model kombi / transporter as my next car until I found this little guy.

It was something I never would have expected to buy but upon seeing it I couldn't help but put an offer on it. Its perfect for me.

As with all beetles, there are a few rusted areas but on the whole its turning out to be a solid car. As i'm at uni, It just has to last 2 years until I have some spare cash to fix the few issues it has ( Like a gastly interior & a few rust patches).

Here's the cars run down:

* 1960 body on 1970 Pan (front disks & 12 volt electronics)
* 1600 single port engine
* 14x7 Centrelines on the front
* 14x9/10 Centrelines on rear ( not 100% on width but there wide)

I went for a drive with dad on Sunday arvo so here are some pics of our 2 cars together:

No drop sides on it yet but i'm working on it.

Some nice drop sides with wooden slats. I dont think anything else will suit quite as nicely.

Thanks mate.

I was reading the top of your post thinking oh no... rust was mentioned and i crinbed and though, maybe its old and has crap tired paint and might look... well, bad. But, It looks totally amazing. It looks reallllly great, a great find!! I have a twin carbie kit that would suit you engine really nice (just need difff manifolds..) and would give you a bit more responce, if your not so cool with standard gear....
Anyway, I totally dig it. :)

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately I'm not really in the market for some new intake components at the moment.

I need a new gearbox first otherwise I wont be going anywhere any time soon regardless of a stock engine or not. Thanks though. I'll have to keep it in mind.
