New member Notch
Hi guys, I have posted a few of these pics in the new member section, but I thought I'd start a thread over here for the rebuild of the Notch I
picked up today.
I've been lurking on here for a while, but didn't feel able to post anything coz I wasn't a VW owner....but that is all sorted now!! Purchased from
an AVW member, Splitmeister....less than 5k's from home...unbelieveable!!
I look forward to hearing any feedback/suggestions you guys might have for me, along with getting to know a few of you guys better...there is an
amazing amount of knowledge on here, and I hope to make use of it as much as possible!
So...here it is...what do you reckon??

Nice notch. I note that there are no number plates, so I assume it isn't registered. Is that why it's on the trailer? What's the interior and
engine like?

thanks guys! I appreciate the welcome and the comments!
Wannvee: I actually posted the best pictures of it...the passenger side is pretty nice, the drivers side is rubbish will post pics soon!
kg1962: Yes, sadly no rego, but I do have the plates. I live in South Oz, so it shouldn't be as hard to get some rego as what you Eastern states
boys have to go through!
Interior is pretty scruffy and needs retrim, but the engine runs OK....it could so with a tune up etc. but I'm not too worried as it will be in bits
soon hopefully.
izac: I have read your posts with interest over the last few months! I did actually notice on your posts that you said the rear BRM's were going on
quite some time ago, but totally understand how things go sometimes..it is hard to get things done at times. I will be waiting with interest to hear
how you go with your short axle conversion...could be handy for myself! Unfortunatley, my Notch definitely isn't mint.....but in my opinion, any
Notch is a sweet Notch!
I will have to update my profile to give you guys more info abot myself, but yeh, South Australia is where I'm at.
Catch you all soon!

OK....so you've seen the good side, here's the bad side
As you can see, that RHR quarter is going to need a serious massage!
not to mention the drivers door!
I dont have any pics of interior, but if you picture a bad interior in your head, mine is probably worse!

before I log off guys, just wanted to ask what the story is with type 3 rear lenses??
There appears to be two different styles....a smooth one like on izac's square and a stepped one like on my Notch.
mine...with the step out at the top....
is this just a production year thing?

The stepped out lenses from memory are from 66 or 67.. The slimline ones are earlier up to that year. The rear quarters are the same so the lenses
are interchangable, I think the only difference is the screw length and the lens, the earlier lenses should screw into the existing chrome mouldings
provided you have the right screws....
Nice notch BTW..
If you can't fix it with a hammer,
you have an electrical problem....

The tail light lenses on your Notch first appeared in August 1963 on the 1500S (Germany) and August 1964 in Australia. Welcome to the better
aircooled that VW made!!

cheers for that guys!
so is it considered sacrilege to swap over to the earlier slim line ones?? I just think they flow nicer
As for 'the better air cooled that VW made'....I tend to agree at this stage. I didn't really have too much of a preference when looking for a new
project, just that it had to be VW.
I have always admired the Notch, and decided that it would be a better option for me as I am nearly 6 foot 5 inches tall....and not too skinny...if
you get what I mean
They seem to have LOTS more room inside than a bug....for someone of my size anyway
Hey Notch Nut and 1500S...are you guys related? You both have Fahvergnugen under your names. Pardon my ignorance if this means something other than your names are the same.

VW put the extended lenses on because they look better!!!!!
We're only related by owning a Notch. Wouldn't have a clue what
Fahvergnugen means!

the seat right back.

Fahrvergnugen means driving enjoyment. It was used in Volkswagen ads in the past. See links below:

well, if thats what it means, then I want in on this Fahvergnugen family!! especially if the relationship is because we own Notches!!
thanks for the education kg1962...it was VERY infortmative. I love soaking up all this VW related stuff
and yes, 1500s, I am expecting to have to modify seat positions etc. to accomodate my NORMAL size...seems like everything I buy is built to cater for
midgets!

haha, don't joke about that....when I was younger I used to own a few Morris Mini's and the back seat idea was almost a consideration then....but it
was just a little too far from the pedals, so I took to being cramped instead.
It did take practice to get into them though!
