Just Picked up a 73 Square
Well I just picked up the square SpLiTmEiStEr clued me up on. Not bad for $500. Supposed to have a loose head, Although with very poorly tuned FRD34
dells, 009 dizzy, fouled plugs, poor timing and a real big actual exhaust leak its hard to tell. Driving her home was quite a task, uphill she almost
didn't make it. And there is a wobble on one front wheel when braking. When she got home the first thing I did was rip out the 009 and take off the
carbs. Tomorrow I will delve a little deeper and fix it to run with stock distributor and stock solexes, then plugs, exhaust leak, check head bolts
and valve clearance. There are other minor problems that will need fixing but Thanks to another member I have a spare engine I can fit if I have to.
With the parts from the car I was to restore I should be able fix this one right up. Love the number plate and Goons sticker. I am a huge fan of the
old Goon radio show

If I meet the person who put the baby dells on this thing and who serviced it last I will HAVE WORDS TO SAY. No gaskets between the head and inlet
manifolds. The "balance pipe" connectors were two sizes over diameter and nothing holding them in. Tinware has been botched up, spark plugs loose.
And to top it all off at least one of the heater boxes is from a bug. I have almost got the stock carbs on after struggling to get the old inlet
manifolds off. The nuts were too close to the housing and couldn't get a socket on until I said screw it and belted it on with a hammer. Oh this is
so much fun lol

Great to see another type 3 saved though, '73 is the best of the lot in my opinion!

Who isn't a fan? Old maybe, but forever funny. They are still on the talking-type wireless (RN) in Smelbourne I think, but at some silly hour in
the morning. There was a proper Goon society in Smelbourne called O.R.G.A.S.M. (standing for Original Radio Goon Assoc... ) not so long ago...

Vin Plate says 73. It has a KPH speedo too. Havent gone much past the engine yet as I ran out of time. Try to put something on and ended up having to
replace something else. So far I am up to fitting the stock distributor but will need to swap the bottom "cog" 180 degrees as it won't fit when
timed correctly. Still have to adjust the valves and replace the bug heater box. Should have checked the head nuts by now but it's been cold and
raining and as I still have the other 72 sitting in the drive I am working on the front lawn. Yes I am Ghetto. If I leave it too long I think the wife
will call sims. LOL.

Anyone have the correct late type3 fuel pump, 73 drivers door trim panel (crappy board ok as I can make that up) in black and the spring/wire
actuator and clip (For moving seat back and forward) oh and also carpet for the front floor in black.
Car is going well. Just adapted the tacho I have to fit inside the old clock housing (The old autometer one looked out of place in the last car.
Aligned the rear of the bonnet (Front is being a PITA). Removed the tow bar, found a little rust in the rear fender and gave her a wash. Should be
back on the road this week (I hope)

Your going to struggle for a fuel pump, i did mine last week and ended up adapting a beetle one to fit, give the guys at GHR on daws road a call, they
helped me out with that one.
Im contemplating adapting a tacho to fit into the old clock housing, i have two, so will still have a clock if i need, but i love being one gauge
short and having a massive hole in the dash
Looks like a cool project though, good luck with it all!

The tach I have fitted inside the clock housing very snugly after cutting the rear of the clock housing out. I am pleased with the result but still
have to check to see how "off" the fonts will look together. I had missed your thread Doc and really admire what you have done. Perhaps we will see
each other on the road some day.
Thanks for the heads up on the fuel pump. I may see if I can get something from someone in the states, although that may be just as bad seeing as
there's were mostly fuel injected
