Rebuild cost

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone knows how much it costs to rebuild a 1300 or 1600 engine?
Or am I better to wait around to find a close to rebuilt one?
Also how much would a reco'd transaxle be or how much to get one rebuild?

Cheers

Engine (no real expense spared but still stock) would be $3500 - 5000.
Transaxle around the $1300-1500

I had my motor machined with new oversized bearings and crank work done and it was about $1500.

What you pay for is what you get,if you want brand new you should buy a new factory motor from Mick's or one of the other suppliers who import these, they have a good warranty etc,if you want reconditioned go to a reputable vw rebuilder and he will build what you want to your budget, or if you want a bargain buy secondhand or backyard builder and that is what you will get. My suggestion is go with either of the first two.

i had a conrod through my case so i sourced a 1600 block -$100. then reco'd the block - $200. then put all my goodies back on it and i now have an excellent working motor!!
