CB Performance in California sell several turbocharger kits. They are all Weber carb blow-through kits. The link is:

Prices are not listed - you would have to phone them or get a VW specialist here to import a kit for you.
They do NOT include intercoolers - that's something you'd have to engineer yourself.

A moment of reflection........
LOWBUG........man take a breath and a pill or whatever......
Have a chat around the forum...there have been quite a few people who have done the TURBO thing......it seems that alot of them are from the Sydney
Wollongong area!
Info on turbo's.......have a chat with "Amazer" here on the forum......he had the fastest turbo'd Kombi in Ozz for quite some
time.
Have you thought about your budget...or are you donating you N*ts/firstborne to science. I have looked into going with a turbo and it ends up very
expensive very quickly!
Things to consider:
Turbo, Fuel Injection, Intercooler, fabrication of manifold and inlet runners, oil cooler......and a motor ot bolt it all to!

i take it u want more then 5 pound boost so an intercooler is a neccessity!
i hate to say this but look at a suby EA82T easiet way out for cheap!! on aircooled its harder then water as u have to manufacture something to run
the intercooler (air water air etc)
an aftermarket fuel injection system is around 2K an is really the only way to get turbo running preoperly!!!

Seriously, the intercooler "system" is the absolute least of your worries, you just have to find one(frickin plenty) from a jap(or euro) car
wrecker that can fit easily somewhere and maybe has the same inlet/outlet diameter as the the turbo outlet/intake. Air to air is the simplest and most
widely used on all cars (just look at all the HKS/APS/TRUST etc. gear). Water to air intercoolers are slightly more complicated because of the cooling
fluid?(i dont know much about them), but they take up less space for the cooling they provide.
You can get one made up also from a core and two "tanks", probably more expensive tho.
"Hooking" it up just requires some tubing (aluminium is preferable) with some silicone(or rubber?) hose connectors. My friend recently had a
truck air to air intercooler installed on his subie liberty rs turbo(obviously) and this was not that hard. There was less power loss in warm weather
because of the colder air, but there is now noticeable lag at 1bar (time for set on of boost power) because of the the sheer size of the thing (huge
front mount), but hey some people like the boost feeling although it doesnt help acceleration times much.
So basically, the moral of the story is you can use basically any intercooler as it is just an extension of your turbo-to-carb/intakemanifold tubing.
However you have to consider the size and shape of the thing and also in relation to the size and rating of your turbo, these factors may contribute
to lagginess and air cooling potential of the setup.

i was told by a guy just to use an intercooler system of a liberty turbo they are big enough!!! and he picked his up for $200!!!!

not true my friend
my brothers 1916 fuel injected turbo runs no intercooler and constantly over 10psi
im sure oval glen will vouch for this he knows the beetle and my bro it has no cooking probs only decklid standoffs and an external oil cooler

I know that LowBug is going to Boost a Lot more than 10 Lbs.
- He will definately Need an Inter cooler.
He has done the ground work : Very Tuff
engine , all the good gear , already has the Hight Tech injection on , he is after intercooler ideas.

Hi
Air 2 air is hard to set up on a rear engine car. I have recently seen Leighs turbo 2007 pulled apart, he pulled it down to fix some leaking pushrod
tubes and change cams, the motor was in excellent shape despite running large boost and being driven hard often, its a testiment to intercooling and
EFI. As Corky said
"intercooling is more cake".

I ran up to 22 psi on my rx2 mazda just using water/alcohol injection.
It is easy to setup and if you use a few switches in the right spots you can rest assured you wont go high in the boost if you run out of water.
After 2 years of doing this I burst a radiator hose and cooked the rotary motor when we pulled it down it was nice and clean and seemed quite healthy
inside bar the water seals.
I would do it again without hesitation and there was little effect on the turbo impeller either.
Its chemical intercooling and I love it.
In my opinion, the bug configuration doesnt lend itself too well to sucessful intercooler mounting.
If you dont believe me, we can have a drag race one day at a track, once I have done my mods.

Thanks all for the input OvalGlen is right I've done my homework but it never stops, once you get one thing happening you go on and on and on.
Hry Herbie Rx's are one thing but an air cooled engine is a little different I'd Be glad to see you down the strip even begore I add the
turbo, I love a challenge and it just fires me up even more.
The one one thing I've noticed with all your coments is that most of what youv'e siad is only what youv'e heard of I need tried and
proven. Nothings impossible and I hope to supprise alot of people with the ideas I'm gathering, so keep sending them in.

yes rotors are different to air cooled dubbs but I have tried and proven all of which I said concerning turbo rotary mods,
Well if I get some money together and do it I will be happy to see how the racing goes.
Its possible you might beat me but I know you wont be as much faster than I as you are over budget.
just friendly teasing, I dont really want to get into a " vws verus rotary power argument "as this is after all the aussie veedubbers not
the aussie rotors.
And its quite possible that I won't waste any money trying to make my Dub fast as its alot of money often better spent elswhere.
I hope you get it screaming fast.

Dont be surprised if the other kids wont let you copy their hard researched assignments, anyone who has a real good setup will probably be competing
and hardly keen to divulge all their research and tricks and specs just because you have a face and obvious impatience in your posts, not to mention insults to those who dont give you the exact info you want
to hear. you may just find that you need to study, calculate, test, recalculate, retest, restudy, retest..........etc like anyone else who has a
winning combination.
till then you'll be reading their back numberplates and spending lots of cash

I got no problems talking about my combinations (kombinations) I think we should be working together to kill the opposition. But I havent done a type
1. Unlike wankers in other makes I think vee dub people are happy to share info. You want my cams specs I'll give them to you nop probs.
The turbo and intercooler are best put in behind the back seat. A liberty intercooler will be sweet. Im running one in my kombi at the moment. I
wouldnt waste my time on talking to the yanks re turbos. Rather talk to keith hausler or leigh harris. They were/are running the quickest turbo dubs
in sydney. You really should run an intercooler with any boost. The difference in engine temps is amazing.
lighten up a bit herbie. You made the right choice getting out of the shitbox mazdas. When you ditch your devotion to the wanker engine you'll be
a good guy I'm sure.

Hey Herbs you got it all wrong not angry, ancious and ambitious its
taken a long time and lots of saving to come up with what I've got now. I don't look at it as spending too much money what I spent money on
is quality parts that will save me money and enable me to play with a serious hobby. Each Time I complete a stage I plan the next its an on going plan
which continues to develop " If it was easy everyone would be doing it". Someone said to me that money for horse power you can't go
past a rotary, I supose I'm just a purest, one that luves a challenge. Each to his/her own.

slow conversion
Yeah fair enough,
I am actually keen to be converted totally but so far cant get a ride in a cost effective fast bug or bus,this might sway my opinion
I have previously offered for someone to take me for a ride in a vw that is actually quick and especially one that is an affordable hotup, lets say I
have,{but currently dont} $3000 and want to make my bug go hard, not gemini hard, not nissan pulsar hard, but something that might stop the clock in
less than 13 seconds or so hard.
If you can show me how, I may never bother wankeling again.
hp and reliability/dollar is my only real objective,
I want to have a play with a turbo 1600 tp to see what I can achieve, as I'd like to keep the vw motor.

I think that you can do it but it just take time and patients, by this I mean save a bit buy a bit and over and over. You need to be realistic, you
won't get low 13's out of a low budget engine, what you will get is a great reliable street engine that will surprise the hell out of people
if you do it right, I've had great sucsess with a 1776cc engine you have to spend the money in the right areas and that engine would throw you
back in your seat no worries and I drove it everyday. Maybe we will catch up at Nambucca

where bouts are you located?
I think my friend may still have his stock liberty water/air intercooler left over, I could give him a try, but you are probably not located within
the "near" 1000km radius like the rest of these great chaps so it may be of no use to tell you. Otherwise, you could probably have it for
basically bugger all.

Hey Lowbug your saying what I'm thinking. I'm putting together a strong 1640 and then I'm going to engineer a turbo setup. I have
listened and read and I don't think it will be all that hard or expensive. The hardest part to date is finding info on actual turbo's ie
size boost etc . What turbo's are those who have them running ? I'm looking now. Will then fabricate manifolds mounts and exhaust etc
