[FS - NSW 2251] Karmann Ghia Coupe Cal Look GEORGEOUS Price Slashed

1962 Karmann Ghia Coupe

Judging by the response to the original post a few weeks ago, everyone loves this car.....but no one has the budget to buy it.

PRICE SLASHED by $4,000 !

Built by an ex-Fast Fours & Rotaries magazine editor, this brand new resto-Cal-Look coupe has had all the hard work done and has never been debuted at any major VW event.

Undoubtedly one of the finest Karmann Ghias in Australia, duplicating this vehicle would cost approximately $50K. Priced to save you over $20K, it represents an excellent investment for the KG aficionado.

Don't waste your time and money buying a typical KG for over $20K when what you may get is a patched-up original with a low performance engine, four-wheel drum brakes, swing-axle rear suspension, and well over 150,000 km on the clock. One that may require years more of your hard-earned money to keep on the road and still leave you dissatisfied.

If you've dreamed of owning a uniquely beautiful, high performance Karmann Ghia then you could be driving this one in a matter of days. One with all the performance hardware & custom touches you've ever wanted, that will save you over 30% in cost and the 3-4 years it typically takes to fully restore one of these classics. Built to be a practical daily driver, it's brand new from top to bottom and has been driven less than 5km.

100% bare metal restoration • body-off rotisserie reconstruction • lower six inches body & floor pans replaced with reproduction steel panels • Daihatsu Feroza aqua 2K paint • all new rubber seals & chrome • smooth one-piece bumpers • custom removable nerf bars

'67 VW chassis converted to IRS • front torsion beam adjusters for easy ride height adjustment • performance front camber eccentrics • narrowed ball joint front beam sleeved for extra strength • custom narrow front anti-roll bar • raised front shock towers for standard length shocks with bump stops • rear air shocks for easy ride height adjustment • rear anti-roll bar • four wheel cross-drilled disc brakes • 17" replica Porsche Cup wheels • Falken 205/40 & 215/45 tires

Stan Pobjoy 'hi-po' 1916cc engine • 7,000+ rpm counter-weighted crank • balanced rotating assembly including flywheel & clutch • custom cam grind • 041 VW heads • 44mm Weber carbs • anti-surge oil sump • hidden electronic ignition • electric fuel pump • 911 Porsche style fan shroud & alternator • fully detailed engine bay with polished aluminium panels • hidden carby linkage & ignition wires • extractors & custom high-tuck dual exhaust system • rebuilt IRS gearbox • black powder coated suspension • under-body, chassis, & suspension detailed in two-tone hammertone

All new interior upholstery • sports bucket seats • gearshift & handbrake relocated rearward for better driving ergonomics • custom wiring loom • battery relocated behind rear seat • battery disconnect switch • fuse box relocated to centre console • VDO oil pressure, oil temp, volts, left & right cylinder head temp gauges • dual Kombi electric heater fans • two hour break-in on engine • Fast Fours & Rotaries magazine feature car • FF&R issue included • unregistered • chassis #147158944

You'll likely never have another chance to buy a fully rebuilt Karmann Ghia coupe with extensive, high quality performance modifications, under 5km on the clock - and save over $20K!

Looks gorgeous, goes hard, sounds awesome, steers straight, & stops on a penny!

If you can't afford this dream KG on your own why not consider buying it between one, two or three good VW buddies?

It's probably not going to be used as a daily driver, so co-ownership is a great solution where you get to enjoy and take pride in ownership of one of Australia's best Karmann Ghis for a fraction of the cost. Co-ownership is a practical means to enjoy what may be beyond your budget, and is commonly used to own time-share holiday homes, race cars, expensive boats, and aircraft used on a recreational basis.

Share ownership of this stunning Karmann Ghia with one good buddy and get to drive it two weeks every month for under $15K each. Two buddies and enjoy it ten days a month for under $10K each. Three buddies and cruise one week a month for under a measley $7,500 each.

In years to come you could buy out your partners and end up owning this beauty outright, with cost spread over a time period you can afford.

That's got to be better than never owning or enjoying a Karmann Ghia of this calibre!

Price: $29,500

NSW 2251

Hi,

This does not seem to be registered but is it registerable (if that is a word) - i.e. street legal?

KG is currently unregistered as it's been in storage while I'm working overseas. Previously registered in NSW in the late 1980's with the same body, chassis and 1600cc engine block. Taken out of storage in September 2010 and $2,500 spent prepping it for sale.

Hope all is going well Steve from some old faces around the Central Coast. You might remember my similar KG in the late 80's with moons and a slightly more jade green colour. Good to see this ride still knocking around. Good luck with the sale.

A short focal length camera lens puts the background out of focus to emphasize the foreground subject. Check my avatar image, you can see the KG is real :!:

Reub, second photo shows seat upholstery - albeit taken mid rebuild. Small scale bucket seats were chosen to fit the scale of the interior and ensure the top of backrest was no higher than the window sill.

Always was more of a flat four fan than any fast four or rotary. Here's my old '69 Notchback, a great daily driver! Sold a decade ago, I wonder who has it now?

Thanks Aussie_Mick, however I can't take credit for my old Notchback. I bought it as a stock resto and only lowered it and bolted on the polished Porsche 914 wheels (originally on my KG) and the Euro-spec tail lights.

Empi, the fan shroud and kit to adapt the Porsche fan & alternator came from Vintage Vee Dub Supplies. It uses the stock oil cooler if I remember correctly. There's some debate about the effectiveness of the cooling, however the only way to be sure is to fit two cylinder head temp gauges, which I did. The 1916cc has only been run about two hours and head temps seem OK.

The carb linkage came with the Weber kit and was adapted to mount behind the cooling shroud rather than through it. I can't remember the exact details, however it wasn't that difficult. Sorry I can't provide more specific info.
