Which look is your favourite BEETLE ?
Hey guys, though I'd put up a bit of a discussion thread about which look takes your fancy when it comes to Bugs? Take a vote and if you're keen,
let us know what it is about that look that makes it your pick?
Cal Look

German Look

Rat Look

Rat Rod

Stock

Drag

I really like Most beetles...
although chopped Beetles I do not like....
and slightly lowered as the front is way too high on standard beetles.. IMHO..
Lots of different Baja's about too... Very Individual cars..
Joels 1303 is a great looker... as is Pauls ... excellent..
Lee
here is the Scone look ..lol

It's a fine example of the versatility the little bug has.
What other car in the world has so many different Themes I guess you would say.
Obviously I'm partial to Germanlook but like Matt, Daimo and Lee I like all of them.
It's good to see a nicely restored or even all original stocker but seeing the different stuff people can do with them is impressive too.
A choptop like Lee mentioned (lowered roof not convertible) has to be very well done look right, very few of them seem to get the roof line right.
A well done rat is an eye catcher too but some owners do go abit overboard, theres only so many rusty spotlights and mirrors you can bolt to one
car.
Just a nice stance, the right wheels with aging gracefully patina really stands out in the crowd.
Tims old bug is a perfect example.

In my opinion i think there can be many neat examples from each individual scene. i am partial to the old cal-looker and rat-looker yet i also like a
properly done Baja (Not like the ones above).
As Joel mentioned, in the VW scene we are lucky wit the various types of different 'scenes' so that the volkswagen can suit any owner.
They did hit it on the head with the term, "peoples car"

I prefer mine to be 'stock-plus', by which I mean mostly stock, but with a few upgrades for performance. Stock bodywork with all the brightwork, but
sports seats and steering wheel, wider wheels and a nice exhaust. Here's mine. I would prefer it with trim strips but it came with the holes welded
up and I'm not game to drill them!

I might prefer it slightly lower for looks, but I enjoy the practicality of the height and it handles just fine.

Well my favourite look wasn't/isn't listed - so I had to vote for Cal Look.
My favourite look is "Resto Cal". If you don't know what it is, see below:
The Resto-Cal (or Resto-Custom) Look is predominantly based around a stock-bodied car (i.e - no body mods) that has been lowered front and rear. The
general consensus is - the lower the better! One spline at the rear is considered the minimum!
Wheels can remain stock, or other popular options are Polished/Chrome Empi 5s (it's all about the Bling!) or Early Porsche Fuchs.
Interior is stock, except for the possible additions of a performance shifter or additional accessories (e.g - Bambus parcel shelf)
Period accessories are popular - think along the lines of fender skirts, roof racks etc. Big engines are not necessary, but it's also not unheard of
for a Resto-Cal car to have a hi-po motor. Narrowed beams are popular too, narrowing the front track to enable the car to go lower, giving a
"tucked" look.
The Resto-Cal look is a vintage style, resulting in a car that has a ground scraping stance but can be restored to stock relatively easily should you
wish.
Any model of aircooled VW can be given the Resto-Cal treatment (except perhaps for the MacPherson strut models) Pre 67 cars are more traditionally
popular, but late models are increasing in popularity.
I reckon the first picture is Resto Cal - not Cal look. To be truely in keeping with the original Cal Lookers there shouldn't be any chrome trim.
Having said that, I noticed that a lot of the original Cal look guys at Der Kleiner Panzers for instance, have put most of their chrome back on. So
maybe the first picture really is Cal Look. (I'm so confused!)
But as many have already said - it doesn't really matter, it's up to whatever the owner likes. They're all good.
Great post though.
