OK Ldog, here are some photos of mine - it is a 75 Lbug, but the back seat area is much the same.

I got the seat back frames and head rest mounts out of a pair of front seats, and had them welded into the original back seat seat back frame.

I had also added pockets to the back seat 'door cards', so I had the back seat cushion area shortened (across the car) by about 25mm to make it easier to get it in and out.

I then had it trimmed with a lot more shape than original.

Here is the frame re-done and painted (to protect from rust).

Then trialled head rests.

Then had it trimmed.

Then fitted them in the car.

Really happy with it, my daughters are a bit pissed it wasn't done when they were small and riding in the back. It is there for my grandkids now. lol

I have put a back seat out of a 2002 forester in my 69 baja project. or the 2000 forester rear would probably be an easier fit.
the forester cushion width is perfect.
