How to tell?
I have a 5 rib g/b in the kombi, so this means it is a 1800 g/b. yes? Is there any way to tell if the motor is a 1800 or 2ltr?
Can anyone out there tell if it is ok to run a remote oil cooler on a 1600sp and if it would be feasable to do away with the top cooling tins and make
a sheetmetal top that has a twin thermo fan setup in it so i can make the motor lower and flatter ontop? I ahve seen the Porcshe type top tins but
dont want the motor that high.
What modification have people done similar to this and does anyone have photo's?
cheers

I'm pretty sure the 2 ltr kombi motors engine number starts with CJ.
i don't think the cooling tin thing will work unless it's only for drag racing... you could just convert it to type 3 cooling if you want the engine
flatter?? i don't know if it will fit in a bug though.

Cheers. The cooling tin idea was for my trike, i figured that since the alternator/fan forces air over the top of the cylinders( and oil cooler) i
might be able to do away with it and make my own setup with low mounted comodore alternator and twin thermo's. One running all the time and the
second one cut in when needed

There is a setup similar to what you are talking about floating around in the for sale section. Might have to go back a few weeks buts it there
somewhere. Is strictly for drag race though. Type 3 cooling would be the best bet. Check it out.
Good luck!

I'd go for type 3 cooling with the fan on the end of the crankshaft... suitcase engine... designed by VW..
with type 3 cooling tin on top of the cylinders...
its very important for the air to be directed over each cylinder.
Remote Oil cooler on a 1600sp is OK...

Thanks everyone. Can get the pancake tins but was curious about the other setup for everyday use. Could always go with a 7" fan above each pot.
