Oil in Air filter housing?
Hey there,
I was just doing some checks and found some oil in the air filter housing. It wasn't flooded, but there was a bit in there, and I'm not sure why...
It appears to be coming from a little vent inside the housing, which has a small hole in one of the seals.
The car is a 1997 Polo - 1.6L Petrol.
Anyone know what this might be, and what could have caused it?

its the oil bath system should be filled to a mark in the bottom half no oil no filter
|

Maybe you should have read the whole description before posting greedy 
The breather system on your Polo will more than likely vent back into the air filter or inlet pipework.
Maybe your car has a little bit of excessive blowby which is causing oil to build up in the filter area.
How many km does the vehicle have on it?
Does it blow any smoke?
What grade oil are you running? If the engine is starting to wear out then you might need to go to the next grade up.
This is about all the advice I can offer cause I know very little about modern cars

Hey there, thanks!
It only has 154,000kms on it, but 3000 of those have been put on in the last four weeks, as that is how long I have had the car.
I don't drive it hard, and don't over-rev when cold, or going up hills etc (slow freakin' automatic).
It doesn't blow any smoke, and I'm not sure what type of oil is in it, but it was just replaced when I got the car - and seems to be using a little
bit. I park on concrete and can't see anywhere that it leaks.

oil was probably 15w/40 oil which is normal for late model cars..
I've always used Castrol magnatec 15w/40 in water cooled cars
Some cars do use oil...
You could try 20w50 oil... which is thicker...
but it probably won't make any difference...

Is it petrol or diesel?
20/50 will help a little.
I'd recommend wiping the oil out and checking again regularly to see if it reappears.

It's petrol.
I always run it on premium too, like the book says to.
I try my best to obey the rules, but it's keeping me broke - that's for sure!!!
