Yep we know your very wierd Isaac.......I've had major problems with 2 sets, 40 HPMX and 32 PDSIT's. I wouldn't bother no matter how cheap.

Matt is right, they generally suck! Don't waste your time and money with the EPC/ICT's. They don't work!
I had a set of 44 hpmxs that I got cracking with some effort and a truck load of dodgyness!
Only reason I gave them a go because they were a freebee!

I think that Jake Raby fellow believes in them tho??

As with anything, when they're good they're good (maybe, we'll give Jake the benifit of the doubt). Same with any setup. The problem I see is, do you want to take that chance. The HPMX's I had trouble with were owner fitted and had also been to another pro VW shop. They were the first set to come to me so I was happy to check them out and fix his problem. How hard can it be? Ends up they had been difficult to tune from new and it was due to a manufacturing fault where there were many cracks from the fuel bowl to the chokes in one carb, it was due to poor quality alloy that fatigued during machining and seemed very porus ....ended up as JUNK, unrepairable!

I prefer Webers

I have seen Jake posting about the HPMX and he has said that he modifies them a fair bit and then they work OK. Don't know what he does though but I probably wouldn't want to go through the trial and error phase of them.

There's people here too that have used them, and like them. There's also the argument that the trouble was only with the early ones, but the set I saw were since the 'rigorous inspection and testing by vw guru whom I can't remember' had started. Aparently they make more power and are generally set up richer than a Weber.

Mine were way out. 44 hpmx. 36mm vents, f7 e tubes, 155 mains, 65 idles, 55 pumps and 220 airs! But what's even funnier is those numbers have no correlation to the actual sizing. Crazy buggers!
How many people here have thrown time/money at these things with no result?

I ended up putting one on my 4age motor on a custom manifold, it worked well. Ive got a video somewhere of anyone is interested.

Maybe that's where the issues come from, the jets aren't consistant, may explain alot of issues.

Put up your vid, an HPMX working well has to be seen, gotta at least be good for a laugh that it's cool on a waterpumper
