Earthing gearbox - solid mounted
Hi guys,
i have a solid mounted reaer cradle, does it need the earth strap that usually comes off the nose cone?
I would assume not.

My transmission is mounted solid - but I still fit the earth strap. Why not?
Nothing worse than a bad earth, as it can cause all sorts of electrical woes, least of all sluggish starting.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Bad earths cause a lot of problems. I'd fit it.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Especially with that decent coat of paint you gave your pan and frame horns... only thing better than that for giving bad earth's would be rust and
or powder coating.
Earth strap weighs what... half a kilo tops ???

When you are re-fitting the earth strap, clean all surfaces of the strap and all of the nuts, washers and bolts and where the strap will touch the pan
and gearbox, down to shiny clean metal and liberally apply Glycerene to all surfaces before assembly.
It will never corrode and will give a very good reliable earth.

YES AARON
the only way to be 100% sure that the earth is connected is to use the Earth strap...
starter problems-
headlamp brightness-
charging problems-
all can be caused by NOT using an earth strap..
I would replace the old one with a new one...
clean under where its going to go... wire brush ..
and the same on the chassis... I always use a NEW bolt and nut where it bolts to the chassis..
everything shining where the bolts/threads go...
