['71 Fastback] ACT Historic Rego - Period Lowering
Hello Ladies and Germs,
This my first serious post, and I hope your infinite wisdom can assist me in solving this dilemma. I recently purchased this sweet '71 Fastback from
a forum member in Newcastle. I am having a ball working on it every weekend.
My aim with this car is to have it registered with ACT Historic Registration through the Club VeeDub, Canberra Chapter. So, I have
signed up with these guys, and in 6 months will be eligible to get the Historic Rego.
There is a sticking point however, which is the ride height of my Type 3. I believe it’s down 3 splines rear, and 2 splines front
(please check the attached photos and advise on config?).
According to Canberra Club VeeDub Historic Rego
Guidelines - link;
'Acceptable Alterations; Suspension upgrades incorporating the original design components. Ride height must remain standard'
If the vehicle is not standard, the vehicle may be passed at the discretion of the Registrar or the Committee.
So, now to my question:
Were VW's lowered 30+ years ago? Were they lowered to this point (3 splines), and can this be considered a period modification? If so, where do I
find documented reference to this period modification?

Do you have to get a roadworthy first time you get the rego? Would that lowering pass a roadworthy?
At the end of the day it is still up to the clubs discretion, as they put their signature on that bit of paper.

The ACT historic registration procedure isnt clear to me.
To my understanding it is up to the descretion of the club Registrar or the Committee.
The car is currently unregistered. It has no roadworthy. and is low.
Am I required to get the passed yellow slip first? Then give that to the Registrar...
Can someone from ACT Club Vee Dub on historic rego comment?

probably best to go to their meetings as you have 6 months to get it right ,and find out who is the registrar and have a chat to them as they might
not be a member of this forum

Get yr RWC then just slamm the car its only adjusting splines.... , 15in wheels and a taller tyre will also give the illusion that the car is lower by
giving more tyre tuck.

And then if you have a crash, and the car is deemed not compliant, you are driving unregistered.
Then the insurance company doesn't have to pay out.
Then the club gets it in the neck.
Be careful guys.
