Front Badge Install

Have got my car back from being sprayed recently, just wondering when installing the front VW badge on the bonnet of a 67 beetle, do the plastic clips go in the holes in the bonnet first or do you slide them on to the badge pins then insert the badge.
They seem extremly tight either way.

I put the little plastic cups in first and then the badge on our 68. You may find the paint has made the holes a little small though so might need to be cleaned out a little first.

When I did mine, I found that the plastic cups were a bit oversized, so I carefully shaved them down with a knife. Also, one of them was too long and hit the bonnet frame, so I cut that down. It should still be tight though. The cups should go in first and then the badge pins expand them, like a masonry wall plug.
