No i dont, but if it is no , why?
If some one says its because it isnt a VW engine, then neither is a Pauter or any of the other exotics?
At least it looks like a VW.?
The whole point is what makes a car a VW and what doesnt, who draws the line and where do you draw it?

The line to me is closer to the real thing. I belive there's more cred in the closer to stock parts. Even Rodney's car is bordering on the other
side, I gather that's why he picked the NB body, to give some original ties to the front engined concept.
I like making Volkswagens go fast. Mag casees and VW 043 heads.....yeah baby

Well the ONLY part thats VW is a small resemblance to a beetle, so it's hardly the fastest vw in Oz.

I agree with pretty much all of that matty except the bit about rodneys being on the boarder! IMO he jumped that fence a while ago and is way off in
the distance!his car is a funnycar! Front engined, lenco trans, ford 9inch rear,nb body shell stretched wheel base with an Audi tt roof?that's just my
opionion.Although I can say my bug is the fastest multicoloured 66 standard with no backseat and points ignition at spring mountain that's all that
matters to me.

A Pauter or Autocraft engine etc may not have (m)any factory components left but they are still based on VW architecture. i.e. developed from VW
engines. Same as a KB hemi is still related to Chrysler etc.
I guess it comes down to how fast do you want to go!!

Come on Lets be honest here, is no way you can call Rodneys a VW at all, if you showed a picture of his body to anyone they would say it was an
Audi.
My whole point is where do you draw the line?
You could say Autocraft or Pauter is based on a VW ,but so is a Subaru? Again where does it stop?
At least the V8 one actually looks like a VW and thats what people would call it if the saw it!

It looks like he's possibly got real headlights, and maybe door hinges. Other than that though, it's a doorslammer/supercharged outlaw car, not a
VW.

In what way?
Does it have a VW engine, No
Does it have a VW gearbox, No
Does it have a VW chassis, No
Does it have a VW body, No
So what makes it more VW than the one that looks like a VW?
My whole point , who deceides when it is or isnt a VW

hee hee ,,, this is one (discussion) that will continue for ever,,, because there is no "line" there is only massive "grey Area"
so there is absolutely no solid "point" or "Place" or "Level" or "number of parts" listed or 'degree" or anything that is going to give you
the answer you`re looking for
I know exactly what you mean,,, i really do,,, we have a similar problem in the morris mini scene too
but,,, sorry to say, the fastest vw is the one who actually has the fastest of -->a fairly stock vw where "most" of the parts & the
"entire" design & the "complete" body are still made of VW
anything less than that & it`s just not "completely" VW
My kombi would not really be that either, it has Toyota engine,,, all the gearbox internals are not vw,,, the axles & CV`s are non-VW... not much
on this thing that is VW anymore,,, just the body & even that has been hacked at
so,,, sorry, but no answer to that one i`m afraid,,, except for ---> put it into the big "Grey Area" box & move on i spose :-)

Black64,I knew you would bring this back to rods car. It still looks like a NB about as much as that thing looks like a OB. Cant understand why your
hating on him so much. Still a beetle still a flat 4. Why is it you who thinks he should decide if it is or isnt???? If you had something that would
take the prize off them maybe i would understand but bringing up arguments like this in several different threds just gets a bit old and boring. It
dosnt really matter. Both quick cars that would be a blast to drive and would be a welcome adition to my shed anyday. Sounds to me someone might be a
bit jealous!!!!!

I didnt intend to bring Rods car into this, others did.
But again lets be honest, if you are saying you will build Australia's fastest VW, how much should it actually be VW?
As Theminiman said it all seems to be grey areas, and i was wondering what others thought, if you dont want to enter into the discussion you dont have
to but i thought forums were about disussions?
Its the same as Wayne saying he has the fastest regoed car but its my understanding he changes engines over for the strip?

Going by your standards waynes isnt a vw either with albins gears and chev pistons.(ive never seen him change engines just to drive it) Street
registerd dosnt mean you have to drive it everyday. Most of the quicker cars run alot of aftermarket parts based on VW parts, fiberglass panels, Tube
chasis. Still based on a VW still a VW.

In the case of the car that started off this debate....think of it through the eyes of a ten year. It LOOKS like a Volkswagen so therefore it must be.
And the result is he remembers that car because he thought it looked and sounded awesome.
End result....he loves volksys and we all win. In this debate there are no winners or losers.

It's a bit like a work of art - everyone will probably have a different idea as to what it means. A really personal and individual thing.
I stubbornly stick with king/link, swing-axle, drum [356] brakes, etc. on No.8 Beetle. That doesn't mean that I think that there is nothing
better.....it's just MY personal choice.
We don't need to 'pigeon-hole' everything - just be thankful that we are free to 'do our own thing'.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

This got me thinking how fast you could possibly go using only VW OEM parts. Even this would be an impossible task of where to draw a line. You could
weld up a pair of heads until they were a block of aluminium and turn it into whatever you wanted. Would you have to use the pee shooter exhaust? If
you remove the baffles does that rule you out? VW exhausts had baffles in the tips. if you dont use baffles then it is not VW no?
And then I decided that my kombi was possibly Australias fastest kombi because it was almost entirely VW parts. Everything was a modified genuine VW
OEM style part except cam, pushrods, ecu, oil pump. Going by my rules these modifications are allowed. I'm gonna make myself a badge.
