Would you be happy if you paid for these rust repairs? - Even bodgier than I thought
A while back I had my car soda blasted and had them do some rust repairs at the same time. Would you be happy if you paid for these repairs?

would you be happy with shit on your car? that would be a better question. those welds are shocking,
what did you pay him a couple of bananas? after he peeled one with his foot, you thought "not bad considering he singed his fur!"
but you daren't complain incase he shits in his hand and throws it at you!!

It's all relative to what you paid for the repair and until that is transparent you cannot cast an informed opinion. So what was the quote?
On average its $80-$120p/hr excluding materials...

The cost should be relative to the finished product.
In the real world, at least $80p/h and upwards. So if only a couple hours of labour was paid for, then that would be the result.
I know I could fabricate, weld, metal finish, lead wipe a repair in that area of that size, and it can be done so the repair is almost undetectable in
bare metal.
However it does take time, and I may need 10-12 hours to do a repair of top quality.
So when rust repairs are quoted at $1000 to fix an area that size properly, it is not uncommon for a vehicle owner to pay say $200 and get a result
similar to what is pictured.
So if $1000 was paid for the repair, and the result was as pictured, then that would be inconsistent.

Thanks for the replies guys. I deliberately left the price off so as not to influence anyone's comments.
I paid $600 to repair these sections and a section on the other side, as well as weld up the trim holes and the aerial hole.
Needless to say I wasn't hapy with the result, and the job wasn't even complete when it I picked it up. As has been mentioned, the quality of the
welds is rubbish and you can even see where rust converter has seeped through when I treated the inner surfaces.
I have spoken to the business who did the repairs and they are not prepared to do anything to fix their workmanship, let alone complete the work they
were supposed to do. Obviously I am not pleased, but woudl I trust them to try and fix their work.....I don't think so.
If anyone wants to know who not to get to to do rust repairs, or soda blasting for that matter, drop me a PM!
In the mean time, if anyone can help me out with completing these rust repairs, I'd be happy to speak to you.
Cheers
Cam

You have no idea how much I'd love to learn, but I now have a deadline to get the bodywork done and shell mated to the pan.
Twins on the way and prep needs to be done for that as well, so time is running short!

The guy who did these repairs was in a hurry to get them done before he left for christmas holidays but I still don't thinks that's any excuse for
such poor workmanship. Let alone the the soda blaster who he works for was completely unwilling to correct the shoddy work. In fact he tried to tell
me that he thought the work was good quality, can you believe that?

I take it the work has BEEN paid for. Crappy that you have to put up with such shit, why doesn't the guy just say, I don't give a shit, and it will
look like crap! Now you've got more work in front of you. Hopefully you end up in a better place

Certainly a case of no pride in workmanship and definitely not willing to stand behind the quality of their work.
Plenty of work ahead, but we are getting into it now.
I'll be happy to recommend a BUSINESS NOT TO USE if anyone needs their car blasted

While I agree that there are 2 sides to every story, I ask you two questions (not you MUSS VDUB personally):
1. Would you be proud to say this was your workmanship was yours?
2. If you paid any amount of money for these repairs (let alone hundreds of dollars) would you be happy?

:/ i'm no expert but that looks a little dodgy... I'm sure you have rights when it comes to something like this don't you? obviously you didn't
get what you paid for (or even close to it)... i'm sure there are some laws that protect you as the purchaser of that service?

I found out why the rust repair section sat up higher then the panel. It was because the dodgy bastard never cut out the rusted sections. He simply
cut them and more or less left them in place and riveted patched over the top and welded them in place.
Here are the original bits of German metal that I pulled from under the patches (1 from either side C-pillar). I've circled the holes he drilled to
rivet the patches in place.
I would liken this repair to a surgeon cutting out a section of your liver with cancer, but leaving it on your body and sewing you back up.
To be this dodgy the guys must be a rank amateur. Has he not heard of magnets?

That is not a repair at all. It would have been better if he had not touched it. I agree that you should get your money back for that kind of rubbish
attempt (or lack of).
