My Early style headlight to H4 coversion
Is there anyone that can tell me the best way to convert my original 66 bugs headlights to H4, whats the best way to get them to sit in the housing
correctly?
I have already converted the car to 12v and fitted relays for the headlights.

you can use the US spec lights with the clear lenses, they fit the standard 7" inserts

Well I found this cheap way to modify my original headlights to a H4. All up it cost me about $8.00 + my choice of H4 globes, which in my case I
bought a kit with parkers and bright white globes, that set me back about $35.00
So the first thing I did was bought some R2 headlight globes, as I stupidly threw my original ones in the bin, hence the $8.00.
(I am not endorsing Narva globes, just the only brand avaliable in my case.)
I then used my rotary tool (Dremel) with the following bits.
I then ground the points that the globe retainer is spot welded to the globe.
I then had to smooth off the points left when grounding the retainer, so the new H4 globe fits snug in to the R2 retainer.
I than installed the retainer on to the new H4 globe making sure it sat level.
Last thing I did was to cut one coil off of the spring holder to compensate for the extra hight on the back of the globe to make it easier to
install.
Thats it I installed the headlight, adjusted and worked great.
Just thought I'd share, might help some people out. I had already converted the car from 6 volt to 12 volt and have installed relays for the
headlights.

Yea that's what someone told me, but I could not find them at any of the shops around Adelaide.
So I tried this instead.

May want to check the focus pattern of them as they aren;t seated in the original spot now.
Autobahn had Narva H4 Halogens in 60/55w and 90/100w with the VW P45T base for $17 each when I was in there a few weeks ago, plus any VW shop should
have them.
