Blank drums (no holes)

Is there such a thing as blank drums for lowlight / split screen wide five stud so that they can be drilled with choice of stud pattern, thought classic Veedub had them a long time ago but not certain and can't find any? Not something I need yet but intersted for future possibilities with the current build project.

Hi

You would be better off converting to later drums and discs.

Hi Mike..

check out : volksconversions adds in VWA magazines..

John Sherman from QLD.. many adds have the photos too..
brake drums/discs drilled in many patterns or blanks..

You can buy studs & nuts too.. instead of using VW bolts...

just be aware if you buy 2 disc and two drum or 4 drums he slugs you with two lots of postage and the prices advertised might not have gst on them. he tells you of this after you order.

Well they are two heavy items
and probably many places would do this.. as smaller parcels are easier to do.. Best to ASK for a freight quote..

Advertised prices

Many VW shops do this... [add the GST afterwards]

but I agree Barls, it doesn't give You the correct price
[the end price, and can make a big difference to Your order]

I don't like that happening either

if just about everyone advertises the price with GST included

why do these people ADD it later???

the GST cost is extra profit... for them..

I know We have to pay the GST...
they know We have to pay the GST...??

what im saying is its nice to be told that it will be sent as two packages and so there will be extra shipping.
as for the gst with him. i found out after i got the parts that he charged me extra and when questioned about it he told me it was the gst. this is illegal. if you advertise something it must be with gst or have it noted on the ad that its before gst.
ive also had a drum start to fail on me from him. under 5000 km on it and it was just about flogged out on the splines. was not happy.

Hi Barls

Drums will wear on splines, even genuine ones if they aren't torqued to specifications
[which is a 5ft pipe of 50mm pipe on the end of the breaker bar and jump on it. lol ] or about 217 ft/lbs from memory
Yes, checked...

a local who has owned VWs since the early 70s says if the NUT isn't torqued to that spec they will wear the splines away.. they are only cast metal...

cheers

they werent loose thats the problem. when im leaning on a 1M piece of pipe and im about 100kg i think theres enough torque on them. also had to give it a good nudge to get it undone.

YOu might be pleasantly surprised on international shipping so check out CSP, Machine7, VW Heritage and Custom and Commercial. Pretty CIP1 do them in the USA but I also know they sting you for shipping when I know it don't cost anywhere near that much.

Unfortunately many companies are profiteering badly from postage costs these days. Nice little scam :)
