Final shot - engine still in place (have to still sort out the breather box dimensions). Stay tuned for the next episode of the ongoing saga, The Trials and Tribulations of a VW Body Off Resto.

Very impressed m8, great work!
What did you do to the rear suspension? Paint or powder? Silver?

Well, no rest for the wicked. Have to continue on to get this beast finished!

Started to plumb up the fuel lines from reg to carbs (bolted them up after I collected the manifolds after HPCing). Alternator pulley HPCed as well (didn't like the silver powdercoating it was previously in). Fuel line will be secured to firewall so don't worry bout that floppy line in the pic!

Sorting out dimensions of breather box which is yet to be made by Hardcore Racing (performance shop in brissy where I get all the AN fittings etc from). Coil (promaster mallory) will be either mounted under rear luggage compartment above g'box or in car on front side of firewall).

Linkage is just popped in place for now (has to be shortened to fit).

I've been tinkering a bit more in the last couple of weeks. Temporarily bolted up the crusty ragtop bits to work out how much the rollcage will have to be dropped so the golde handle will be able to clear it. Pity to have to change this beautiful bit of kit, but alas these things happen.

All the ragtop components are yet to be powdercoated...once I get the cage sorted all bits will be nice and shiny.

Just embarking on the custom stereo intallation. This first step is very boring, but it will progress over the next few weeks to something more interesting.

A sub and two 6x9s will be housed in this parcel tray. Amps will be located under the bonnet, and the 6in speakers and tweeters in footwells in aftermarket speaker kick panels.

Its all a little tricky getting it to fit in with the cage but rest assured everything will be securely fastened as I had my whole parcel tray stolen from my old beetle years ago. Damn thieves.

Thats it for now.

Mate I'd love to do it for a job but the time it takes to do these sort of restos would be cost prohibitive to anyone when you add up all the hours involved. Ah well, for now I'll enjoy doing this stuff for myself (I wouldn't want to give the customer's car back if I went through all this for someone else!).

Kickpanels arrived the other day (thanks to Brad [blup58] for bringing them in for me). Just sizing them up for now - will need a little trimming and fine tuning to get the spot on.

Not a bad bit of gear - the fibreglass is nice and thick (not the plastic ones available some places). 6in speakers and tweeters will be finding their way into these panels soon.
