I think Vic Roads and the TOG Police would have a few more issues than side intrusion bars with that car!!
Its street legal until they see it on the road dude... Ive been put off the road for WAY less.
It sucks, but thats the Vic road laws...
Looking forward to getting my car here in the US so none of those issues!!

Yes you are right but I can engineer the car and as long as it still is road worthy the togys can't touch me. I have done heaps of customer cars this way where they are radical and still legal in Vic. Just not sure if it is worth it with this car.

Hey Nick who does your camshafts? And would you share the specs of the two cams you've tried in your 2233 turbo engine?

I'm guessing around 278 at 0.050" with a 114 lobe seperation.

I'm about to start putting my new engine together and want power to peak around 7500-8000 RPM.

Cheers,
Ian Swinkels

It so is worth it Nick.... This car (and your efforts!!) are an inspiration to many of us here.... The development of this car, whilst keeping the concept pure, is what makes this car so unique.... You simply must keep the furture development of this car alive.... Its a ground breaking Aussie built rocket that simply must continue!

There.... I said it.... Now go and 'take out' some superbikes damn it!

Thanks Humpty for the positive words, but i think you are over doing it slightly.
The car was a joke from the start and I ( and plenty of others) have done a lot more and better work on better cars. My other 67 is a much better car but also a fair bit heavier. Why is the junka the fastest? Maybe because it was just slapped together to have fun with and it got out there. Basically it was fun but by continuing development means a full cage and more for ANDRA tech. Now it is getting serious and missing the point.

JUNKA UPDATE

After sitting for a while not knowing what to do, I have decided to prep it for thr VW drag day at Heathcote.
I have fitted a 1.00 4th gear (thanks DB), installed a launch control MSD, popped the guards out a little more to fit a 26/8 MT. Last time I fitted The t66 and turned the boost down and it made more power that the T4 that went 10's. On less boost it blasted the 6'' slicks stupidly, so I might not have a good VW drag day but it will have to do!!! The more power I put into it the more it twists the car up and I am constantly casing my tail.

Well Nick... Im sure most will agree with me on this.... While you say "The car was a joke from the start and I ( and plenty of others) have done a lot more and better work on better cars", the single thing that has taken everyones imagination is the fact that its not a purpose built racecar... Its a ROADCAR, that goes like a RACECAR!!! We all know that the efforts that you and your brother have put into many cars over the years, defines your business and your approach, this car takes it all to completely new level... You have proved, as others have, that a 'simple' (and I use this word advisibly!!) concept and thorough execution can yeld mind blowing results.... Where people like Dave Butler, Henry Spicak, Rod Penrose, Pete Page, etc have done phenominal things on the track with purpose built rockets, its guys like you, with cars like this, that make for real world relevance with maximum impact.

Plus I must say, that I prefer the look of your car to!!!! I know Im not alone in this view.... Thats possibly why this particular car has grabbed our collective attention....

Every time i get a notification about this thread, the link takes be back to the first page.... where i see how the project started.

It was such a nice looking car back then. All original and un-molestered.

I'm sure you've upset quite a few purists... :cry

So am i ever going to read the full spec sheet for that engine, in particular the camshaft specs and how you've got it dialed in?

See Nick.... Its not just Reuben and myself that dig.... Maybe I'll run a poll....

Something along the lines of... "Vote for the top 5 performance street VW's in Australia"

Hmmm....

1. Nick's Junka
2. Keith Hausler's Light Blue Oval Bug (Circa 1994)
3. Dave Prior's Black genuine DKP Oval
4. Reub's Crazy Purple 68
5. Chris Fraser's crazy Hellbus
And I think Henry Spicak's yellow Ex Drag Oval should get an honorary vote too!

That's my top 5+.

Hi Ian,
is it worth it to buy one?...prob not.

I don't know what Nick has,
but if you want to exchange ideas on turbo cams let me know.
Wide lobe centres and smaller exhaust lobe duration is your friend.

Well in the past few month I have not touched the car because I have had too much customer work chewing up all my time.
Also we are moving to a larger shop at the end of August.
So that means I wont be able to make it up to Warwick this year.
Sorry to let the VW people down as I know the more VW's the better.

Sorry Craig!
