Yep twoguns it will be fixed to the floor onto two runs of SHS steel with mounting nuts welded to them. I will be placing special emphasis on sound deadening after paint it done - going with either dynamat or stinger roadkill (or a combo) as I've heard about the vibrations you mentioned.

Car successfully arrived at custom offroad this morning after the two truck driver had to negotiate the lovely clay/mud we call our driveway at the moment - its is lovely after all the rain we have copped recently.

Looking good still Alan-you have probably got these(you seem to be up with all the latest things),but I have bought a heap of different size Metric Rivetnuts and the tool to spread them and it saves trying to spot weld bolts to thin body steel.I have them in steel and aluminium and are real easy to fit.

Cheers

Cheers for that Gary, much appreciated!

Well, picked up the beetle today from Custom Offroad - new main hoop is completed to clear the Golde ragtop handle. Muchos credit to Brad and the boys for not only their great workmanship, but also their fast turnaround!

I never thought it would be ready so quickly....now I may be in with a chance to have it painted over christmas new year week!

A straight bar across the top still looks tough, and enables me to now use the rag!

Heaps of clerance now! Also now rubbing on the ragtop frame either which is great. Once again thanks to Custom Offroad.

Now to get it powdercoated..... again....

Front beam (narrowed 80mm) should be ready early next week....the boys agreed that my beetle had the worst turning circle they have seen thus far!! Soon to be fixed though :P

Now I can finally get the ragtop components powdercoated too. Started drilling/profiling the holes at the back of the ragtop section (for the plate that holds the canvas down). That will be done tomorrow (hopefully after the first half of the driveway is concreted finally!).

Bought all the paint today (base coat clear coat)...another nice blow to the wallet....ah well, cheaper than having it sprayed professionally! At least I save on labour.

Thats it for now.

Welded in the mounts for the amp rack lower tier tonight. The box section for the upper tier for sub amp was also made but will be welded onto lower tier during this week (lots of angles to sort out).

Also pulled apart the ragtop frame (again) in readiness for powdercoating...unbolted rollcage (again) to powdercoat new main hoop as well.

Can't wait to get that paint on! :bounce

Yeah penguin that was mine - what a f'ken nightmare. Tow truck $hit itself in the driveway of custom offroad (exxon valdez type oil spill)...I was supposed to have it home by 2.30pm as I needed to get it in the garage before the reo and mesh went down for the driveway (which we poured the concrete for sat morning). Anyway, it got there in the end, only 3 hours late...and still got the driveway done which was good. :cussing

Picked up the narrowed beam (80mm) from Custom Offroad today...needs a good cleanup but once again the work was top notch. Will now have to bolt it up to check body clearance, then tack on steering stop...and see if I have to modify pitman arm. All good fun this modifying game!

Finally finished welding the amp rack tonight. Bit of fiddling around to get the angles right (three hands would have been helpful!)...haven't cleaned any of the welds up yet - just got it together for now.

Originally I was going to weld another support brace for the upper tier, however after fully welding all the joints there was no movement whatsoever even with a fair bit of pressure. So it will stay as is.

I won't be using the stock wiring cover - I will be making another custom fibreglass cover around the side of the amps to hide the wiring etc. That will come later. Thats it for now though!

I've been playing around with some more AN fittings in the last couple of days. Sorted out the breather box to firewall lines...

I decided to relocate the -8 AN bulkhead fitting for main fuel line into regulator. Now will be more stable than previous plans.

Hopefully tomorrow body will be off pan again and transported to my folks garage for paint this coming week!

Well body is off pan yet again and being prepped for paint. Had to "massage" the body a little to get the narrowed beam to fit but nothing too drastic. Nothing a BFH didn't fix. ;)

So now time to clean up the filthy pan as well as install the -8 fuel line through the tunnel, as well as route new brake lines whilst body is still off to make life easy.

Engine will come out yet again for final clean up and also to replace the starter bushing.

Like a number of other aspects of this project, certain things I have done have to be undone....and then redone. The Chassis black POR15 paint (despite assurances from the POR15 sales consultant) didn't stick to the primer as well as it should have. So it will all be coming off (oh joy) to make way for fresh etch primer and this time two pack base coat black with some clear coat to top it off.

I don't really have to do this but I would hate for a bit to chip off and start rusting under the pan at some stage. Some bloke on another site accused me of being "too anal for this project...its just a bug after all man" so he said. But I guess some people just don't get it, the old saying which I adhere to strictly is "if its not done properly then its not worth doing at all". Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks I guess.

i have to say beautiful workmanship. i hope when it comes time for me to get into my car i have the patience (and skill/dedication)that you have shown.

*playing devils advocate* if you are repainting the pan, would it be a good idea to add the inner mount points for irs trailing arms and dimple the forks for CV clearance... just incase...
