Thanks to all for your kind words...I am pretty stoked with how it turned out. Grey, I have only seen my old bug once thus far on the road (I hear
that is looking a little worse for wear nowadays though)....pending on how things pan out, it may grace the pages of a certain local vw mag later this
year (it was scheduled for an april issue in vw trends until we all know what happenned there - D'OH).
Removed some of the masking today, lookin pretty nice all that shiny paint inside and out...will certainly come up a treat after colour sanding.

The 63 temporarily has a buddy sitting beside it - the 1968 which will also be receiving a body off resto (although not quite to the same extent as
the 63) - the paint was already done (thanks Lex) when I aquired it....
It will receive a 1916 with dual 40 dells, mechanical resto (brakes, suspension etc...but probably not gearbox at this stage though)....etc
etc.....and it will be for sale once finished (once I finish the 63).

Pan is ball joint/swing axle and will receive the usual body off treatment.
Anyway, back to the real topic of this thread, the 63 will remate to the pan this coming weekend (for now, until I have to pull it off one last time
for colour sanding etc).
Over and out for now.

Cool, hope the owner is enjoying it....it certainly draws some attention!
Unity, you are right about the bet....won't be that silly again as time lines always blow out by 3-4 times that which is estimated to begin with!
Kim, indeed you are right too - colour has made a huge difference. Not to mention my wife is a little more excited now she can visualise what one day
will be a running, registered vehicle which we can actually use! :kiss

Nothing too exciting to report - just pulled off the doors, guards etc and transporting them to my place (our spare room looks like a spare parts
storage facility at the moment!).
Tomorrow body will be back on pan so it to can come back home...then the colour sanding can begin!

this may sound like a dumb question, but what is colour sanding? i undestand the need to give the car a good cut after the freah paint.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

Cheers again gents...
StenGuns, zz top could be cool - hadn't thought of that!!
Sub enclosure etc is on hold until I save to buy the new rear fill speakers as I'll have to modify the box to accommodate them.
Drew, colour sanding is basically performed to make the final finish smooth to remove "orange peel" in the paint which is the ripply dimples you can
see in the top coat. You hit it with 1500-2000 wet sandpaper until peel is gone...then you end up with a flat, but dull surface. Then you fire up the
sander/polisher at low speed using buffing compound to bring the shine back....followed by a softer pad and swirl remover to remove the swirls left by
the buffer.
Then there is the final wax....ah, my arms will be huge after its done!!

thanks das. yeah i did do that to my car after i painted it. just i was never told the name of what i was doing. by the term colour sanding i thought
it may involve sanding the base colour back before the clear is applied.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

Not really - but the lighting conditions do play some tricks on how the colour is perceived. I guess it has some similar tones as the polar silver but
is much more olive/green - it is very hard to describe!

There would be no fun spending all this time and money on the bug only to trailer it to shows.....certainly will be no trailer queen! (hehehe...just
re-read my reply and realised it is sitting on a trailer! - only time it will see a trailer when done though is if it breaks down)
It won't be a daily driver, but it will certainly be driven....hard...as often as I can! All do respect to people who build dedicated show cars, but
I have no intention or interest to make this one.
Anyway, body finally went back onto pan today for transport back to our house.
