I'll buff all guards etc off the shell, then pull it off one last time to finish the pan revival (repaint) and buff the roof, interior etc.

Yeah the rod-look is pretty cool

Half the slab is poured which the car is sitting on in the pics - just the front half to go now (which is the driveway to the road). Not to mention still have to build the carport itself!

Hehehe...unfortunately nothing that exciting or interesting, I am certainly a devotee of the "if its worth doing, its worth doing right" motto. No point doing something half-arsed especially if we will be in this house for a while!

Looks similar in certain lights (the original was anthracite grey), but this is much more olive green.

Colour sanding has begun! Not the best start when I was buffing the rear apron and caught an edge - landed straight on the concrete resulting in a nice chip....ah well, got the first scratch out of the way without crying, I can now move on :duh

Next up was one of the rear guards (don't worry I won't show a pic of every single piece I rub back and polish!)...first up hit it with 1500 then some 2000 wet and dry to knock back all orange peel.

You can see the sanded portion on the left of screen and the freshly buffed portion on the right.

A bit scary sanding back all that clearcoat and worrying I'd break through to the base...but okay so far. Its coming up quite nicely.

A big thanks to my mate who conveniently dropped around just when I needed a hand, and held the guard whilst I buffed it and swirl removed it so I didn't repeat the rear apron mishap.

i'd be happy with that dude. coming up a treat!

i hope mine comes up that nice but i will be using a acrylic paint rather than a 2 pac so i dont have to stress so much about shine. can u put a clear through an acrylic paint to make it shiney?

blue, not sure about adding clear to acrylic - quite possibly but don't know enough about paint technology! I know I colour sanded the white acrylic I sprayed on the sides of my old bug and that came up alright.

Cheers Jim!

Decklid's lookin a'ight after a bit of elbow grease...more progress hopefully over the weekend. Got the new rollcage hoop back from powdercoating today - lookin nice.

Thanks!

I told my wife that someone on the forum wanted to see a picture of her (my "polishing rig")...but she didn't think it was very funny....so here is the actual rig:

Makita variable speed sander/polisher (can't remember how many watts)....I use the white firmer pad with the Farecla G3 cutting compound, then the black finer pad with G4 (similar to a swirl remover).

Managed to get one of the front guards done - will be nice to have our spare room(s) and spare bed back to normal use rather than parts storage!

Also clearcoated the recently powdercoated new rollcage main hoop, and repainted the fuel tank neck and outlet area after the AN bungs were welded in place (and subsequently burnt off the powdercoat).

Back to colour sanding again this week...:repuke
