What's the Insurance cost per year for a turbo subie in a beetle ?

you might want to think about how much extra stress that will put on the chassis. I have it on good authority from a splitty guru that they are
notoriously weak in that department and that too much torque is real bad for them. it gives them nasty twists. mind you, he was talking about V6s, but
then, an EJ20T delivers serious torque.

surely no lighter then an ea81? still more performance then a stock 2l bus engine, but alloy and smaller capacity. your right about clearance though,
stock headers and sump are VERY low.

Hi
My old bug was insured for $19,000 with Shannons for about $900 a year. Limlt of 10,000 klms per year. It was considred to be a maximum risk so I
think a subie powered bug would be about the same. Im an old careful driver as well.

be hard to know how to do that that best. strengthening one spot would leave others weaker and vice versa. It's not hard to see why that blue porsche
powered samba in the US had a full tube chassis.

I have my Baja insured with Shannons.
When I did the V6 transplant I rang and told them about the conversion. They added the details to my policy and that was it. I asked how it will
effect my insurance cost and they said it won't. And nearly two years later it hasn't.
So basically, it should be the same as classically insured modified beetle.

I've been scratching my head over this and I'm thinking maybe a roll cage type frame bracing the forks rear torsion housing and forward to the
chassis rails at the front suspension, but I am very open to suggestions

Got a quote from VIGIL.... which is associated with Shannons...car has to be modofied.
Quote with alll my mods and insured for $15000 was $915 per year..I get the wreck if smashed and choice of repairer.

Good news Matt...I have been dealing with Shannons for years....Great crew to deal with. As for insurance, generally....It is different from state to
state!
And engineering legalities are different also.
Jonno...Fitting a EJ20T in a TIII is a piece of cake....The only real issue you will have, being that your car is a 'Square', is clearnace over the
intercooler/heatexchanger. It will sit about 150mm higher and 350mm further forward of the front engine bay firewall!
Maybe look at building in a new 'false' floor/engine cover...
And you don't need an engineer to build anything for you, you just need an automotive engineer to 'permit' the fabrication that you do.

Maybe a hoop behind the front seat going down to the beam, then another hoop in the back going down to the rear end. The two tied together over head
and down the non-door side, and then some bar work round the back end so you could support the motor. This barwork could all tie into the back hoop,
surely that would stiffen up the whole car heaps.
