It's booked in tomorrow morning to get the headlining fitted-so had a few things to do first.Pulled the wiring loom and a 3 wire one I made up for the new interior light thru the drivers side, and thru the passenger side I pulled a 7 wire loom as well as another 3 wire for that side interior light.I am fitting an interior light each side from an NB Beetle as well as the sunglass holder and the passenger grab handle. The original drivers side loom took a bit of work to get down the A pillar with the sunroof drain tube in there as well.I have repositioned the hood lining bows a little lowerto make it easier to get the lining tight against the sides so that the interior lights wont make a big depression in the fabric.

With the hood lining bows-I drilled new holes into the body 20mm lower than where they fitted originally, and put some heat shrink over the ends and about 120mm long so that they will not rattle once installed.

A bit more today-lengthened all the wires of the LH drive loom that were too short-used wires from a wreck's loom,to keep all the correct colour codes.Heat shrinked every joint to keep moisture out.Had the steering column chromed,so fitted it with my steering wheel.I am using an unusual flasher switch I found in one of my wrecks-it's black and has a head light flash built in-just pull back on the lever.Don't know yet if I will wire it up-probably more trouble than it's worth.Fitted my NB grab handle and sunglass holder.Drilled my first holes-to fit a passenger grab handle.Fitted the CD head unit as well.

Bought another CD player yesterday and fitted it.The other one was a Pioneer with a stacker and cassette I bought new some years ago, ready for this car-but decided that I won't drive it enough to need a stacker, and definately won't need a cassette player,so bought a single disc VDO head unit with all the correct wires for running amps etc.Everything on the dash now is VDO.Will be able to fit the amp under the back seat now where the stacker was going.Did some more wiring for the fuel pumps and the neutral start switch and reverse lights. Will have to run a loom in the tunnel to hook up to the trans shift lever. Will put the starter switch on the floor just behind the trans lever.nn[ Edited on 23-8-2005 by nbturbo ]

Started fitting the sunroof tonight-got it all in and working-will have to grease the cables and adjust the guides, then pull the slider out, mark where all the seals fit, glue everything on and slide it back in.Will be finished this weekend. Then move onto something else. Was asked today if it will be finished by April next year-it, along with the NB could be doing the wedding car bit.nn[ Edited on 24-8-2005 by nbturbo ]

Looking Great Gary :thumb:thumb:thumb

Do you have instructions on how to fit the roof and get it operating correctly or are you just a wiz and have fitted them before?

Cheers

P.S. where did you get the drain tubes from?

Dino-bit of both I guess. When I was an apprentice mechanic,we sold an XY GT Falcon new with a sunroof, which was giving some trouble. No body wanted to touch it,so guess who got the job of fitting some new cables.I remember spending a lot of time trying to figure it all out and was successful in getting it to close correctly. When I got this one from Dan and I started to strip it out-I thought to myself-seen all this B4 somewhere and realised they are the same set up.It's all piss easy to figure out,but I found a Type 3 workshop manual at a garage sale and it has a section on adjustments in it-some of it's not quite correct, but still a good how to guide.Dan,all I can offer you now is a rectangle shaped piece of an Oval roof-sorry.Dino-drain tubes are just 13mm clear plastic tube.13mm is slightly too big,so smeared some silicone over the steel pipe and used some of those "O" type clamps that you crimp up with pincers.Got them into position then clamped them real hard-didn't look like moving and once the silicone dried-super tight.Where they go thru the body, used grommets with a 13mm hole and some dripper system elbows-pushed the clear tube thru the grommet and then pushed the elbow back thru-so no way any water can ever leak into the car.nn[ Edited on 25-8-2005 by nbturbo ]

Dont like some of the things you have done ( but thats only me ) Looks great and heaps of work done lots of mods and with a FULL auto as well
Have you done anything to the auto box ( gee there fun to lift in n out of the chassis arnt they ) F a r k there heavy I did my Auto Type 3 about 7 or so times had a bit of GUNK stuck stuck in the oil pump gallieries n was blocking flow to allow the box to change when it warmed up ( it was a pig to find that problem )

Is that the Porsche Yellow colour you have painted the shell

So do you need an RTA ?? engineers certificate or equivelant in SA to register this car with all the cuts n weld done on the chassis. Was he / she pleased with your work it looked pretty good to me

Actually spoke to a bloke in Adelaide today about the Auto-He has done quite a few from Kombis that have had engine changes(Subies etc ) and he modifies the front clutch and mods the valve body for pressure changes. Will take it down in 2 weeks for him to do his stuff. The colour is Double Yellow- exactly the same as my NB.That's the look I am after-a pair of twins but nearly 50 years apart. Was he/she pleased with it-what do you mean???nn[ Edited on 25-8-2005 by nbturbo ]

Dino-Think I will wait till the auto comes back and refit that first.I will get all the trans mounts that I made cad plated while it is away,so will be soon after that. Will bolt the motor up as well to get all the pipe work and electrics sorted that will be in the pan.I will need to make a loom to go in the tunnel for the neutral start, reverse lights, starter button and for the high pressure fuel pump mounted near the auto.I think I will make an aluminium panel to mount on the tunnel, behind the shift lever, which will have the starter button and the power window switches. This way can get away with only needing 2 switches. When you get around to doing your roof-take plenty of pics.I didn't take any of where all the seals were mounted, now I am finding it hard to work out where they fit. When I stripped mine,I put everything into boxes and thought I had everything safe.Months later I remember picking up this funny looking plastic thing on the floor, had never seen it B4,so put it in the junk box. When I started to reassemble, the book shows these plastic things that clip into the end of the aluminium rails and lock into a tab way back in the body to give support.I couldn't find them-so thought mine must not have had them.A couple of days ago,was going thru the junk box,and there was one of the plastic things.I now have to make something for the other one.I will bet that there is no way you could get another one anywhere.Found thisnn[ Edited on 26-8-2005 by nbturbo ]

Shame your missing the clip, I've got 2 but of course I'll be needing those.
I gather you've tried all the O/S suppliers?

Maybe you could try a Ford GT shop, as they have Goldie roofs fitted back in the day, and as you've got a goldie, well you just never know

Modified some 66 wiper arms to fit the Oval tonite.(like the shiny stainless look instead of the frosted silver of the originals)Drilled out the rivets to separate the arms.Bent the ends of the arms, where they push on the little rollers,to give more tension for the blades on the screen.Because the Ovals park on the LH side,I bent one arm the opposite way for the drivers side to park properly.I also rivetted the bit the blade attaches to,and will just use a stainless split pin to keep it on. Was going to fit a 2 speed 12volt motor, but it's a bit tight in there with the guages I have fitted.Decided to keep the 6volt single speed.Tried a few different ways to drop the voltage, but couldn't get them to park because they were going too fast. Finally found some ceramic resistors(they are marked 10amp-22 ohms) and settled on using 3 wired together-wipers go at a good speed and still park OK.

No joy there at all. Will make something for the job. When I put it all back together B4 it went for paint-I didn't have them in,and it worked perfectly-wonder how important they are???.Have got another small delay-wasn't 100% happy with the new headliner-bloke couldn't fix the couple of faults-so have ripped it all out for another go,so won't need the pin for a while I guess. Decided that while it is out, will fit some small speakers into the headliner in each front corner.Made some aluminium brackets last night and will rivet them to the body so I can fit the speakers after the lining goes back in.
