Just a question to you body pro's...
Should I opt for a full sandblast of the body and pan, or just work on the sections bit by bit
(Hoping not to find out further down the track that I missed some rust)?
I'd also be getting my '68 blasted too if I decide to.
Thanks.

don,t sand blast the body the last thing you want to do is pit the metal.clean off as you go and youwant get lost in the repairs .
chemicaldipping is better as long as its nutrialized properly.

Hey Staggers,

Use one of those blue 3m discs on a grinder, cheap, easy and doesnt rip all the paint off the inside where you cannot reach.

Why not put the engine from the land rover in it ;-)

Setting up the arse end will be the main thing, strenghtening it for the torque increase mainly.
Radiators are generally mounted in the spare wheel well, or above the gearbox somehow... I'm planning to do things different.
There's probably more people out there (On AVD) who could help you out better, as I'm only starting off really.
You'll need an adaptor plate obviously, but these are relatively cheap and generally come with a flywheel to suit.
They cost about $550 to $750, depending on who you buy them from.
Oh and for using my Land Rover V8, I love offroading too much!

Okay so the box is out, most of the body mount bolts removed, front end and brake lines disconnected...
I'm definately happy with the condition of the pan,
needs a fair bit of work still but it's nothing major. I'll try to get the pan ready to be removed by next weekend.
Good news for me is the fact that the box is a single side plate, but I'll need to replace a few seals and gaskets before I use it.
I'm also trying to decide whether I should use my rear side windows for air intake to the radiator, or install a couple of fibreglass scoops into the actual body.

Okay so the body is now hanging from the roof!
I'm extremely thrilled to see the condition of the heater channels and pan.
So far the right front end of the heater channel is the worst, and the only section of heater channel with rust!
It's quite noticeable that the rear section of the left channel and pan half have been replaced, due to the lumpy welds!
A few hours grinding and rewelding should have them looking like new.
On the pan the main part with rust is under the cross member where the brake master cylinder mounts.
I picked up a few handy tips from Alan (Dasdubber) the last time I was over which will help to repair those parts.
There's alot of surface rust all over, but thankfully nothing detrimental!
Early days I know, but everything takes time!

Why polish the gearbox you ask?
Because I need something to do in my lunchtimes!

I might be, not too sure yet though.
Thanks for checking on the tarp! I was thinking about that the other night with all the dang rain about.

But anyway... to the box.
I bought myself a die grinder and 90 degree surface prep tool (Small 2 inch sander/grinder), both pnumatic. Been working on getting a nice old shine.

I hate the look of all the dang cast marks so they've been filed off, and the ribs are now smooth.

I know how fiddly it is to get into all those ribs - have fun!

Just a word of warning, I polished the ribs on my box and they tarnished/corroded/whatever you call it....I then repolished and clearcoated but still happenned to a degree. Maybe look into what you can do to keep it shiny apart from getting under the car and polishing by hand every weekend!

Okay so thisarvo (After I recovered from the rum 'n' rona's last night) I stripped the rest of my pan, bought a 17mm inhex socket to remove IRS arms.
All's rosey, just have to send the pan off now to be blasted and primered ready for repairs and rustbullet (Which I will need to buy soon).
After that I'll start scrounging 'round for some decent type three squareback arse end parts (Bigger brakes, heavier springrate to make the engineer happy).
