two were little, 2 inches long, and the others were 4 inches long. I've still got 3 of them left. The skin goes like really stiff like plastic. The trick is to keep them out in the open where it's dry and don't let them touch eachother. Fungus grows in cool shaded areas.

And I tell you what. I used one in a curry I made last week. Between it and the crushed dried chillies from the packet, it took me 5 glasses of fruit juice and a lot of yoghurt to get through it. And it was even hotter on the reheat!!! :cussing :P :cry

Love a good curry.

How about a solar dryer. Simple to make yourself. If anyone is interested I will see if I can find the info and post it up.

Just starting up a new vege patch at our new house and want to have a whole area devoted to chillis.

i was refering to hot as in temperature not in spicyness. there is nothing crazy hot in the buffet because people wouldnt eat it as most people dont like "indian hot" dishes.

we have to cater for everyone. but chef can always spice something up.

this is giving me a hankering for a nice seafood chilli pasta.

Well - i have another HUGE crop of chillies again this year
My old man is 85 (today actually) and can he grow chillies.
He did a batch of Habanero's (arse burner - even for the experienced)

The trouble with these is they are a bugger to dry. Too much meat on them and they rot before you can sun dry them
I have been frying them in olive oil and i have (well had, Eaten them all) jars of fried chillies, but it is not the same as dried.
Anyway - i bought one of those ebay dehydrators AND IT WORKS A TREAT! :tu:
Now i can dry chillies perfectly. All sorts

For the first time i have a couple of jars full of dried Habanero chillies.

Take our own stash to the local pizza joint

Going to try drying some meat soon

PS
For those that love dried meats there is a BRILLIANT Suth Efricun joint on Mowbray Rd Lane Cove
Try some of the stuff - excellent

I didn't know there were so many chilli eaters on this forum!

Wow, so now I can post my inane ramblings about my second favourite hobby as well!

I grow Habanero, Birds eye, Purple Tiger, Chinese Pot Chilli, Thai chilli, Indian Chilli, Penis Chillis (Who could resist rude fruit?) and Salsa chillis. I also have a strain of long horn chilli (The big ones from the supermarket with no heat) that have cross pollinated with the habanero. They are fun to give to people used to the weak ones.

I found that you can dry them in the griller, on low heat, if you dice them all up into small chunks first, like 1mm square. When you get an icecream container of chillis every few weeks, that can take a while.

I also bought seeds for the bhut jolokia strain (1 000 000+ on the scoville heat scale, compared to 500 000+ for habanero) but they are a bugger to grow. Got the plants to seedling but the heat hit them hard.

Ebay has a few different varieties floating around these days. I had to ship mine in from the UK (Seeds are OK through customs as long as they are labeled with their botanical name and not on the banned list).

I know I'm posting in earth hour, but apparently I only had to turn off the lights. Good thing I got a light up keyboard.

baz, i was going to offer you the use of my oust (hop dryer) but it looks like your all set now.
i oven dry mine then in to a bottle of oil before going on my pizzas.
it keeps the boys at work from eating them well that and they work for me.
p.s dont know if richard told you but im down to 11 months left in the navy.
