My Dad's name is Lyall. I hope I grow up to be half as kind, patient and generous as he is. I could count the number of times he has flat out yelled at me in my 33 years on 2 hands. That is of course not to say that he hasn't given me a decent wack on the bum when I needed it.
He is an excellent father. Most importantly, he's shown me, by doing not saying, what it is to be a godly father and husband in many very difficult circumstances.

He's a highschool deputy and was trained as a maths teacher. The difference is with him, he's really there to help kids, not ball them out all day long so many executive teachers in schools. He was also in army reserve for many years and got up to the rank of Company CO which earnt him an Order of Australia decoration after he was landed with a complete bitch of a mess and then managed to reconcile two hostile units into one with care and absolute proffesionalism.

He not into cars, tools or music (my loves), he loves athletics and sport and is a natural administrator (none of which I'm into at all). Still he has encouraged me and my 3 brothers and suffered the costs of all our passions despite being short of cash and even shorter of hair. He and I are in many ways very, very different. The funny thing is, I look and sound more like him everyday.
:)

My father was in the IT industry until a few years ago when the bubble burst. When he was at uni he worked as a car mechanic, despite knowing nothing about cars when he started.
For as long as I've known him, he's been driving very sedate cars in a not-very-sedate way, but I found out that he owned quite a lot of very nice cars in his youth. I think he lost all interest in fun cars when he bought a Porsche 911 that had been raced to death and spent more time in the garage than on the road.

My Dad's a retired RAAF Wing Commander, started out in the service as an aircraft mechanic and engine fitter.

I would liked to have followed in his footsteps, but medical problems kept me from being accepted.

However, like others here have mentioned, I did inherit my love of all things mechanical from him. When I was 17, we rebuilt all the drivetrain in my Datsun 1600 together, was one of the best time's of my life.

A POSSE AD ESSE.

I live in my own little world, but it's okay, they know me here.
