Sorry about the door mate. Thats a bugger of a job changing the hinges. I did not know about the different hinges either - Lindon filled me in the
other day when i was chasing a door for my type 3. The notch is looking great, not sure about your foot though

Don't be sorry Paul! You were a saviour, since the door doesn't need to be painted. Just have to wait to get to beerdoc's house to get the pin out,
then hopefully all will end well!

yeah got a new door today, since I got some advice that changing the pins would be an absolute ass of a job, since the door skin curves over the top
of the upper hinge, meaning you probably can't get it out that way, or smack it the other way from that side.
Brian (bagged notch) suggested that cutting and welding the hinges would be easier, so I just got another door. I think it's an OG Gulf Blue colour,
which will be nice once the respray is cut back.

here is the new door with the right number of bolt holes. 3 is the magic number. door is gulf blue with a dodgy colour match over coat. Will strip it
back to gulf and have it mismatching for a little while, then paint it lotus.
Got the door seal off in one neat piece! don't need that because I'm using the pinch/seals from DDB. Beat a few large dents out of the door, which
was easy enough.
The 2nd photo shows the inside which is OG colour. Did I mention that I like gulf blue?

Got this bug ignition on the advice (from a local VW dealer!) that it would fit a type 3 with an extra hole needing to be drilled. Wrong. Scored a
used fasty barrel which bolts up, but it has no key. At least the key from the new bug barrel I bought works! he he..
Installed and ready to fire up the 1600 twin carb now! well not yet, since the engine isn't hooked up....
Also got this super high tech shorter shifter, obviously far more desirable, rare and expensive than a Berg shifter. Also scored a matching lotus
white ash tray, and some sunvisors/clips which scrubbed up nicely. Mirror was installed too, as well as shifter.
Headliner was masked off and sprayed with off-white satin vinyl dye, which worked great. It all sagged at first, but then tightened as the dye
dried.

these seat rail bushes came in from the states yesterday, and were easier to find than expected (heard they were very hard to come by), but they were
a bit pricey, at US$65 the set. Smacked them in place w/rubber mallet, and trial fitted the passenger seat which sits nice and tight, with no play
whatsoever. Usually they rattle about because of broken/missing bushes. Got the enertia reel seat belts trial fitted, but I'm not sure if it's RWC
to mount the retractors on the rear seat panel. Don't know why it would be an issue, but they have to be perfectly vertical, so it's either that, or
mount them on the rear floor with an L bracket.
Another pic of the headliner....

Steering wheel fitted, which should be white with a semi circle horn ring, but that was in pieces and missing some springs/washers, so just chucked
this '70 wheel in for now, and will put the nice one in after Rwc. Also got the enertia reels sorted, mounting them on the rear seat panel, nice and
neat, not in the way and the work very smoothly.

Got the decklid on, in red ox for now, and the licence plate light, including 12v bulb change over. chucked the 996 mats in the front, because I
won't be able to put the front carpet in until front fenders are done and fitted.
All seats now fitted, ahh feels good, and yes I did sit in the drivers seat for 5 minutes picturing the car being finished and on the road....:duh
plastic interior heater box things are half in place, but one doesn't seem to fit, and has a superfluous tube coming out of it (?!). What are these
things called, by the way?

Looking good ren. That carpet looks excellent.
Is the extra outlet on your heater ducts for the centre windscreen outlet?? Or does a notch have the rear window heater like a Type 34 KG??

Thats the correct steering wheel for a type 3 , also looks like it has the correct horn pushy thing too , white wheels and D horn rings were only
fitted to beetles. 71 on type 3s have big fat ugly plastic steering wheels .

Pusherman. Ok so I stole it from a Barina in the hood (st kilda!).....so what?! Like you don't go around stealing rusty vintage roof racks every
other weekend.
good point grey57, maybe it's for an optional rear window heater, or could be off a later model that had that option, or t34 or something else, since
I don't know if it's og. It is a 311 part though....
......thanks for the info empi, but I'm not sure it's completely accurate, because nearly all of the archived type 3 lit. on samba shows d ring
wheels, but yes black seems to be the standard. I just like white!
