Peter Brock - the Legend - King of the mountain -

Been watching Sky News the past few hours...

about "Peter Perfect" "King of the Mountain "

Interviews with many people in the motoring world

Good to see John Smailes and "Wilko" Wilkinson

who used to commentate Motor events a few years ago...

and both knew Brocky for many years...

Holden or Ford fans - no one could say a bad word about Brocky...

[I hope they don't interview Germaine Greer again]
[I'm pretty sure shes's a Germaine Greer fan only]

ah crap... I got told the news today by someone who was laughing about it. I thought it was a joke and there was gonna be a punchline... unfortunately the punchline turned out to be that it wasn't a joke. :(

obviously the person who told me saw the look of shock in my eyes and later apologised for being insensitive. (read: idiotic)

All the folk i know in CAMS and the MG Car Club are completely devastated... As i'm sure most people are. He was always a great supporter of what we do and was always willing to help out whenever he could.

Kinda brings attention to the bold print "MOTOR RACING IS DANGEROUS"!

Another legend lost, and a very sad day! :(

RIP Brocky!

Dunno about that. He had quite a roving eye and got into a lot of trouble with women and partners of women. The word polarizer comes to mind, and there were plenty of other bad words said about him at bathurst in 1987 and also 1994 in the 2 years that I was there.

I'm one of those who didnt actually like him, but I have a huge respect. He's probably the most popular and most successful touring car driver this country has had and ever will have. The A9X years were incredible and you can pretty much guarantee that nobody will ever repeat the victory he shares with Jim Richards in 1979, smashing the opposition, the race record, and a lap record on the very last lap.

If there's a god and a heaven there must be a bloody good racetrack up there.

It has been a very sad week for Australia with the death of Steve Irwin and now the death of Peter Perfect , King of the mountain Peter Brock
we should have a moment of silence to reflect on the achievments Peter Brock has made in Motorsport being either Ford or Holden people or most of us VW
Peter was a HERO and my heart goes out to his family and friends

Two great aussie blokes gone. Such a shame. Whilst they may have been celebrities, at the end of the day, they were both just normal people who enjoyed the company of their family and a beer. Respect.

What a shame. These things do come in threes. The other of the three was Colin Thiele, the author of Storm Boy.

From the photo in 64vwmarks posting the car that Peter Brock died in was a Superformance Le Mans Coupe also known as a Shellby Cobra Daytona which was designed by an equally famous American named Peter Brock.

That is truly ironic.

I remember when my elder brother first took me to Amaroo. We sat atop the wall on the short straight before the pit entrance. This guy I remember kept on carving everyone up. I remember asking who it was and my brother said "It's Brocky".....following him was Moffat and Gricey in the Cravern Mild car. It's funny that at this time, I can only think of the first time I saw him race, and not one of the others.

Good grief what a week.

I agree Jess...this guy is a legand on and off the roads..

He and hsi wife always considered others as much as themselves...including helping ppl turn their lives around.

He was a figure head for the handbraketurn...whcih aids yound ppl in turning their lives around..& he has his own foundation...which funds other groups helping young ppl.

He was well known in charity groups because of his incredible therory of ppl helping young ppl. If u look at most interviews done with him...he felt that in order to create a better society..we had to help the youth.

Now. I am trying to track down an interview done with him and bev approx 7 years ago...in which they show u...the therory wasnt one taken lightly. they had actually opened their own home to homeless youth...ppl they meet in their travels...to help them out, and gain a better life.

but thing is...when u look for it...so much come up about their charity work, its almost im possible to find.

That why I think he's a great guy...he took hiw high profile media personality...and used it for good things...and he continued to do it long after his retirement as a driver.

RIP Peter Brock

Yep, please keep the negative comments out of here IW4AS... tis not the time or place. He was only human, and entitled to make bad decisions. No single person is perfect...:(

A huge loss to this country and one which I am not ashamed to say I shed a tear over... but at least he died behind the wheel, presumably a happy man, rather than an unexciting death on a sickbed from old age. :tu:

Best to go out with a bang.

Whether you follow Holden, Ford, Ferrari, Maserati, Chevrolet... there is no doubt, as Jess said, that he is one of the legends of motor racing and was an all round awsome guy, both on and off the track. :tu:

RIP dude...
