"" Hi Dave, How did the black beast go? ""

yeah we havea massive engine failure on Tuesday arvo, so Rod Penrose was good to lend us an engine for the car complete with carbies n exhaust so we fitted that up and had some fun

The car bogged on one of the burn outs then cleared but bogged again in 2nd and cause a small fire on top of the carby

Boris managed to pull the carby apart and repair the minor damage so we continued racing n having fun

the otehr white car ran perfect all weekend and on teh Saturday we had 17 runs with it

Leigh was the fasted by .01 of a second so he was the driver on the Sunday and ended up winning the Air Cooled class

hi all,
for anyone that didn't go,you missed out on a fan F...... tastic weekend.
weather was great for spectators if you don't mind a bad case of third degree burn's,i think i might stop glowing red from the burn's sometime this week.
it was realy nice to see some of the cars in the flesh, and to hear them hitting limiters and doing burnouts, what a buzz.
if i was to take any car of my choice home from that day,it would be a hard choice to make ,that is until you hear RR's 48 IDA start up.WOW .i can only dream that my shitter sounds that cool.
i am so jealous of all the guy's that were out on the track having fun.

i can't wait to see what the next year will bring.

Awesome weekend.

What a top weekend.

It's a great social occasion. It was almost a pity to spend so much time in the staging lanes rather than watching all the quick awesome sounding VWs. The drag scene has really come alive and I'm stoked just to be out on the track with some of these cars.

My little beetle made it home without a hiccup. But there was one small moment of excitement. We were following a maroon coloured nissan when an XR8 highway patrol car went the other way. I looked in the rear mirror and the flashing lights came on and he did a screaming U-turn. I thought we were gone. What would you pick? A beetle with racing stickers, nose-scraping stance, a popped engine lid and howling webers or a nissan bluebird?

He flew straight past us and pulled over a poor young lady in the bluebird. We didn't hang around to see if he wanted us as well.

Nice work on organising the event Craig. Well done to the huge effort that the teams from Sydney and Adelaide put in to bring their purpose-build racers all the way to QLD.

I forgot to mention Dave O'Connors red '69 and a black Superbug that I really liked!

What did Dave's run? I didn't see it run on Sunday?

The black super with the Cookie Cutters looked smick and ran hard too! It sounded like a 1916 the way it reved?

Hi BeetleJuice,

I think you were referring to Colin's new hillclimb car.

My favourite car from the weekend has got to be Adams Coral Red Oval. Was that a 3rd gear burnout?

That would have be third with plenty rpm. Crazy Col's fruitloop did easy 3rd gear burnouts. Must be those IDA's. They were so easy, second burnout I tightened up something in the diff spider gears and thought we were out for the weekend. Thanks to Macca and Ben, they not only gave us thier spare box, they spannered with us to get running again. Gotta love the dak dak comraderie.

Cheers Craig. Couldn't believe the fantastic help from everyone. We had already loaned our starter, & the good kama oozed from everywhere. Boris sorted a mismatch of models with a clutch running ring FITTED. Macca and Ben with the box and fitting, Rod R with a starter for us so we didn't upset Al, afterall Rod's high torque was lighter, I know there were others so thanks to all. Made sunday all the more sweeter!!

Like everyone who made the most of every minute of the weekend, I am totally exhausted. With less than two weeks to the deadline for issue#16 of VWMA, I did fall asleep at the computer yesterday.

At trophy presentation, Chris Loy, president of the Warwick Dragclub hinted at a conversation he and I had on Saturday night about future Warwicks, and the effort that goes into organising the event. I probably don't need to state the obvious, but the ask is huge.

However, it would seem I have little choice in the matter about future events. VW Warwick, like the magazine, now has its own momentum, driven by the enthusiasm and energy of the OZ VW scene. Racers and spectators alike want more action events such as these, and it all adds to the excitement of owning and driving Volkswagens.

I'm happy to say after the record field this year and the fantastic support from sponsors, especially VGA, that VW Warwick on the October long weekend is now a permanent calendar event. I've already had enquiries this week about 2008, and been told of at least six more cars to be definitely on the staging lanes next year.

Some one also asked how do you make it better? You don't - the racing makes it a success, and with a few improvements to exisiting facilities and some of the off track functions, the fun element will only increase.

My only suggestion to competitors? Start work on your cars this year - I already have!

I've got to say that after my first taste of straight line racing, I'm definitely going to be there and running next year.

Can't say enough "well done" and "thanks" to everyone involved - after such a brilliant weekend, the fun and friendly atmosphere has made my, umm.... "pit crew".... into complete Volksie converts !!!!

Nice to chat with you Dave.

The Sidery mobile looks good and has a nice stance for a roundy-roundy racer.

Does anyone want to go to the next WSID Wednesday off street drags?
