Painted at last, well we tryed painting it the week-end before the vw fest but weather was poor ( rain).Tryed again Tuesday ,roof flaired up ( fish eyes ), sanded roof back three hours later, finished at midnight . Called a mate ( Col ) he did some more sanding next day and painted the black upper half just before dark. Rained again for the next two day's.Saturday was on us, after work commitments ( launch time) started masking up and more sanding, col started painting at 3o'clock ( weather cooling off ) finished at 6o'clock in the dark ( Heat gone, spot lights on for heat ). Two hours latter ,started putting panels back on car .Then a magor clean inside and out, finished at 2o'clock in the morning. We made the show and had a good time with all fellow vw freinds. NEXT WEEK JOBS fix all runs and sand the bugs out !!!!!!!!!!!!. I love working to a dead line.

Deck-lid mods.

Rod and I decided to change the engine lid ,with a OVAL deck lid,we had laying in the barn at Rods. Later I might put bolgers over the carb stacks.Still deciding if i will cut off the bottom around the exhaust, when i make the side bits. Paint has been colour sanded and polished from top to bottom. Car is now turned key- gear box in,clutch works, motor fan work, suspension lined.nn[ Edited on 29-8-2005 by Dak-A-Tak ]

Deck-lid mods.

We got as far as the trialer ,to load up last night( wed's 31 ) when the clutch ajustment changed ,then we couldn't get gears. Then pedal felt like it was binding or clutch or cable !!!!! There was another problem with left 48ida carb when i screw the fuel bowl bung into far, then bowl crack. ( shoottttttt).Swap carb with another from Rods car . Anyway it looks like motor out and look for clutch fault.Deck-lid ,this car is all steel, like a hotrod.Real old skool dragcars don,t know what carbon fibre is.More soon.nn[ Edited on 1-9-2005 by Dak-A-Tak ]

$hit Pete that is no good - hope it is nothing serious with the clutch/cable. That must hurt (heart and wallet) cracking an IDA - is it repairable?

Will catch up with you and Rod at the show next weekend if you're going (Carina on Sunday), otherwise I'll be showing the bug at the Jamboree.

track-time

Well we made it!!!! to Willowbank on Saturday night for the first time. After a test drive up and down the return road. As i haven't raced this car before the aim was to take things very easy. 1) idle start, gear shift 6000 rpm, 14.32-96.90 mph. 2) 3000 start ( HUGE WHEELSTAND - STINGER HITS THE GROUND )- THE track in front of me disappeared, off the gas pedal ,then a huge crunch on landing, car still going straight so on the gas again, 13.90-103 mph .3) did a practice launch, sliding clutch out 2500rpm, wheels come up 8inches , stage car to go but accidently took off in third gear, got going again car had a miss about 6000rpm- 101mph. Well the night wasn't the greatest but least Rod and I had some track time before next week-ends JAMBOREE . The goal will before mid 12's next week-end. The funning part was the video person pushed pause button instead of play !!!!!!!!!!!:P

Yeah, thought it was, Dave butler ran 11.66 with 112, so there might be an eleven in this car maybe ? would be a great achievement with a carbied motor !

Pete has previously run an 11.27@116.8 in his other race car.
This car is a bit heavyer and all steel to keep in the nostalgia theme.
Peter has also run an 11.92 in Rod Richardson's Cal Looker, that was running at the Jamboree too. 48IDA's all round!

Been awhile , We ran a little 1915cc motor at Warwick this year as I put my motor back in yellow bug . This combo was very untested but went well ,except a stuck fuel pressure reg ,ran sweet ! Best et was 8.75 at a big 77mph .
Still had real good fun , best run with no burnout with little dry launch to start line .
