Why thank you! All those years of college pay off! :)

Of course, do you trust the conservative mechanical engineer, or one who embraces a 50% failure rate? :)

We have a customer who has one, bloody MASSIVE thing!! as far as he knows its the only one in Qld at the moment. The biggest problem with it is when u give it a crack of the throttle the engine wants to rock and twist making the bike go with it!! He said it can be a bit scary oh and add into that the weight its a bit of a monster.

Personaly not quite sure why anyone would want one, apart from the "look at me factor" i see no gain of having a 6.2l V8 in a bike. lots of downfalls tho. Then there is the price! just a toy i supose ....

steff............

It's definitely the "look at me" factor!

But, there is a reason they paint cars different colors, right?

If you made the whole car light enough, then there`s absolutely no reason why it wouldn`t work well

there are plenty of good bike donks out there in wrecking yards & on e-bay worth a look

turbo them for even more grunt & it`s all good

here`s one i prepared earlier

http://madmatt.bigblog.com.au/data/1/8412/image/Photo0040791844650870710173720090830093026.jpg

ok its front engine, sort of mini-based, but you should get the picture about how light i`m talking,,, it`s only an R1 (cause they`re cheap to buy & they`re everywhere) we are turbo charging it too :-)

I`d dearly love one of those V8 hyabus donks,,,what a nice engine they are??? yers sir... :-) :-) :-) Yummy tell your mummy :-)

Heres another motorcycle engine for potential conversion :P. :tu:

Made from dodge... only an 8.3ltr V10... exactly the same engine as the viper. Rekon that'll do the job?

i've been waiting for someone to do a midmount bike engine into a buggy. 500kg and 200hp with a 6speed sequential box. makes lots of sense to me.

btw, chris, that bike is officially a car. it has FOUR wheels and can't be regoed in the US due to bumper laws. bet dodge felt dumb when that happened. ha ha

Dodge had no intention of producing that thing. It was just a publicity stunt.

Unfortunately, the US is saddled with safety laws that stop a lot of the more interesting vehicles from being imported. If it doesn't have airbags, for example, it can't come in.

There's a tiny loophole for kit cars, but if a specialty car comes out of a factory it had better be a factory with deep pockets to pay for safety gizmos and crash test vehicles.

So I can fit a postie bike motor to my bay to gain an increase in reliability and power output? Ahahahaha. hm. I hate that motor.

Is it wrong that I'd like two flat twin BMW motors in there?

If u got low enough gearing, u could use a postie bike motor!

All about torque! and it won't strain the motor. Heck, if u got a gearbox with low enough ratios, u could make a pedal cart out of a split window barndoor!

..... It would just be very slow, as my pedding rpm won't be as quick as a 12,000rpm red line. but if i have it geared low enough, it won't strain me! till an hr or so, or less depending on hill-ness :dork:

P = T x OMEGA (swap brake hp to torque by reducing angular velocity (ie: revs))

Planning a electric conversion for a mate's moke, and trying to do it "right".

I think I may have a lot of physics to learn from you Chris. Methinks we will have much to talk about. ;)

... sorry to dig up an old thread here.. how would this sort of conversion go with engineering approval? Rough idea on cost?
Would the setup be pretty much the same as whats in ultralite buggies?

I saw one recently at a field day with work but didnt have the chance to talk to the guy who owned it...

Engineers seem to have a relatively flat rate, so whatever they charge, plus all your costs doing it, braking test etc. Not something done to be cheap. But I tell you what, if I had unlimited cash, or lived somewhere not so anal retentive about this I'd love to try it.
