started on the exhaust today, i was going to get someone to make one up for me but after finding every thing i needed in our local steel bin i thought i may as well have a go.
the headers are made from the rear bumper ends off a tarago lol. im trying to make the exhaust hang no lower than the sump.
i think i will use the muffler off my old ss sidewinder and see how that goes.
also bolted up the engine again (hopfully the last time before start up) dropped it off the stands to check ground clearance, and it was not too bad :o

almost finished the exhaust today, hangs a little lower than the sump but thats ok better draging the exhaust first anyway.will be wrapping it in header wrap to keep everything around it cool.
tomorrow i will finish the last bit off and fit the old muffler. will try and get away without fitting a cat as my engineer didnt check last time when he did my bay.
its a bit quiet at work atm so i will be taking a few days off to get stuck into this.

happy with the way it turned out, with the bumper fitted it looks just like it did with the 1600 in it. now cant wait to hear what it sounds like.

Very nice job on the exhaust.......I wouldn't hold much hope for the muffler to keep it quiet for too long tho. I don't think those ones enjoy life with too much extra stress

thanks damo,
i will see how it goes with this muffler and when it craps its self i will try something else.

not far off finishing this now.
i have made and fitted the rad housing with a 16" thermo fan, also done most of the wiring and some of the cooling pipe work.
stay tuned for start up! :D

with the radiator up that high it should be easy to bleed and you may not need a header tank.

yep i am going to give it a go first as i don't have a header tank made up yet and if it works ok i will leave it at that.
also if it doesn't get enough air flow i will duct some from behind the drivers front wheel, but i hope i wont have to as i have even closed off the cab fresh air and opened up the inner roof behind it to steel that air as well as the usual high roof air flow to the rad.

i have also closed off the area behind the air channel above the rad. this also gives me a good place to run and hide my loom and other wiring.

started the old boy up to day, it started straight away but sounded a bit rough so next weekend i will replace the spark plugs and give it a clean out with some subi foam.

i ran into a bit of trouble running the cooling pipes so i had to raise the fuel tank and run the hoses under it.
i had to mod the tank as a split tank has a non flexible filler neck, so i fitted a flexible filler off a navara that i found in the steel bin.
also used a bike brake cable to connect the old accelerator cable to the subi throttle .
so close now just need some time.

Nice work. Where did you get your muffler from? I am having trouble locating a muffler with the inlet and exit on the same side of the muffler. In the US that is....

thanks paul,
i love my steel bin ;)

well this is how i over came the rad filling problem.
you just attach a funnel add 5ltrs of coolant, remove funnel attach garden hose with male fitting and fill untill coolant comes out rad cap.

whats the deal with the hose you are filling from... maybe iv just missed something.

anyway, looking good man. is the water pipe insulation near the fuel tank just 2 layers of pvc?? or is there some other form of trickery in there?

no just pvc for insulation, seems to work ok.

the hose is fitted to the coolent manifold with a high preasure female air fitting on the end so i can fill the rad from the engine, once filled (which worked great) you just remove the male end and tuck it away.
the rad cap is realy hard to get to as its on the far side of the rad in the treasure chest.

here is the link to my dodgy start up vid, it sounds so much better than on the vid though.

just make a adaptor to fit on radiator filler cap and make it longer uno like that fancey hose on your fuel tank and put a fuel flap door in the floor of the ute tray and then add a small fitting to the top of the radiator and run that small hose from the motor to the top of te radiator and the air will bleed back to the top radiator tank.
uno what I am trying to explain:blush::blush:

took the old boy for a few splats up the road today, i was really happy with the power and the new steering is unreal!!!
the only thing is that my 8year old second hand fuel pump that's been sitting in the bottom of a parts bin for years crapped itself SHOCK! about 20 mtrs from home.
so had to push the old boy home:blush:
looks like im off to repco tomorrow.
