Whoa!!! JUNE!!! June was the last time I updated this... man I've worked tooooo much this year!
any spare time i've had this year, which was very little I've spent
finishing up the body welding- overflow area, dash, etc, etc.
The dash has come up looking awesome. just have to fill all the imperfections in the body and then I'll start prep for paint... not sure if i'll
still do it myself or get someone else to spray it and bake it in an oven.
Anyway, finally had some time off to get suck back into the bug again so I thought I'd start on the chassis, there was some nasty rust in the back
sections of the floor pan, battery box (you know... the usual).
So, tig welded them in, on the top and bottom for added strength, then started to strip her down
dumped out the old 1200 motor and gearbox (I stripped a 74' a while back so I’ll be using its box... the motor will be bigger)
After stripping the pan back, cleaning and rust guarding it i applied KBS gloss black paint... I like this stuff, but if you get on you it DOES NOT
COME OFF! (hahahahah steel wool anyone)
Then it was on to my next task: a 4 inch narrowed beam with adjusters and custom shock towers (from TINKDF- whose username is bugboy.. i think). for a
first time effort it came up fairly good, it's square and straight.
then a clean and some paint
then onto the gearbox
once that's cured i'll expose the ribs on the gearbox.
still have a heap of work to do, finish the beam and install it back on the pan, same with the gearbox, strengthen the rear mounts and the forks and..
everything else .
I’ve been toying with the idea of air bags for awhile.. it's either that or a nice big strong motor.... hrmmmm.... choices choices choices, what to
do?
I hope you've all had a great year and you have my best wishes for the year to come. hopefully there will be a few more volksys on the road again in
the new year.
Ciao for now

yeah a big motor would be nice, 1916 (there's a nice tie into your username) is the plan but on the other hand, where I live now has a really steeep
driveway and maybe being able to jack the car up with the flick of switch might be better. cause whats the point of a big motor if you can't get out
of your driveway
could always move house a suppose....Hrmmmmm
