Its no secret how I feel. It is usually me starting this topic in frustration, and I know that Brad and Spook have just been waiting for me to throw
my hat into the ring..
But alas, no more soapbox for me. As Brad said this is a little bit of a cut and paste topic..
However, this new topic does raise some valid points.
1. People are selling out. Full stop. No crime in that at all, more a moral issue, but the reason they are selling out is simply because of our
economy. As I raised the point last time, at a guess, I could selling my Notch in the UK for roughly 8-10 thousand pounds, which converts to somewhere
like $20K-$25K Aussie. Tell me, even for a split second, that that is not tempting. Even for an enthusiast. So imagine how tempting that would be for
a non VW enthusiast with a splitty sitting in the back paddock rusting? So as someone previously mentioned, our economy is being taken advantage
of.
2. Here in Oz we are not paying enough for our vans to stay here. That simple, that easy. Ask Rob King, he'll tell ya.
3. They have crap weather, using salt when icy on the road to get grip, so of course, when this salt is flicked up into the cars underbelly, mudguards
etc, obviously it rusts, turning their cars to crap. What happens to our cars that go over there and are driven in Winter?
4. Sooner or later, our buses and\or parts are going to run completely dry.. Then what? We import our rooted buses back again for five times the
price? I'd rather they rot in the paddock in the first place.
Apologies for mounting the soapbox when I said I wouldn't. |

I to have waited to post as most know my views.
Fact, Robert from PukkaVW does send container loads of splitties and early bugs and now good condition bays.
Just look on his website...www.pukkavw.com.
Fact, Aussies still want to buy a splittie for $100
Fact, if you cant sell it here you are obviously going to look overseas.
I am not against people selling restored splitties overseas if they are selling to individuals.
What I am against is the people who come overhere and ship container loads overseas, these people then sell them for a large profit,
This causes people in Australia to think that the splittie that they have in their field, the one with no floor and full of rust is worth $5000.
They dont see that to restore a splittie is going to cost about $15000 - $20000.Just ask Rob King!
There was someone on this forum who was trying to sell a 15 window for $15000 and it needed a full resto.
How much would that end up costing???$40,000 - $50,000, who would pay that.
I believe these prices are being asked because they are seeing how mich they are going for overseas, but as someone has already said, Australia hasnt
got a big a vw scene as the U.K.
I tried to sell my friends 55 kombi on this site about 2 months ago, he had no offers for it from any one in Australia yet had loads from the U.K.
He did drop his price as he wanted it to stay in Australia and ended up selling it to a guy in Melbourne, this guy knew how much it would cost to
restore a splittie to the same condition..
I know I have gone on a bit but the point is , people from overseas will pay good money for them as they are used to the prices, here we will only pay
peanuts.
Keep looking and you will find them??
Cheers

Get over it people!!! if you want your splits to stay in oz then don't sell em to us or pay for like we do. don't go blaming your economy
all the time the fact is we are willing to spend a very large proportion of our yearly income to buy and restore split vans. its prob down to the fact
we really do have a massive vw scene here in the uk. as for us letting your kombies get rusty when driven here....... we dont!! we rust proof em and
take very very good care of them because we do love them and we are not about to spend crap loads of cash on a bus then let it rot. the only reason we
buy em from oz is because your right hand drive like us and rust free, we also get em from south africa and anywhere else that we can find em. we
never here of americans moaning about it and we have had loads from there. sorry if you do feel strongly about it but don't go blaming us eh. if
you didn't sell em we couldn't buy em. so if your looking for somebody to blame look at the people selling not those buying please.
as for pukka vw he does not bring 30 splits back a month, wish he did then i might just get one oh and i don't think they come from the gold coast either, not the ones i've seen anyways.
i do understand everyone being unhappy about but we do look after your stuff the same way you would if the tables were turned.
I have been looking for another split for a long time and hope to be getting a rust free oz bus, sorry if this offeneds some of you but on the bright
side i hope to bring it back to oz in a few years when i hope to move there.
I hope you do understand and don't get all nasty eh. just remember we are the whinging pomms not you :P
chill and be happy veedubbers

Thats right Pickle its not 30 or so kombies
its more like the last visits 12 40 ft containers from Vic ,14 from S.A. that contained Parts and mainly whole Busses etc.(thanks to my buddies at the
container wharf he uses)
Btw look out for his "NOS" stuff. ..... Old stock is correct. (thankyou Jillie)
Because of Rob aka mr pukkavw most of our wrecking yards here are empty, there are several that he has completely emptied and i mean empty every nut
and bolt gone. The only cars he left us were Passats and who wants those!
Pukkavw have you seen it what a shit hole of a farm yard. I would'nt curse my worst enemy to even set foot in whales ... whoops sorry he is
already there.

there are not 30 splits coming over a month, that figure is just a myth.
look at http://www.pukkavw.com and see the 14 splits for sale and the photo dates on
some of them.
and anyway, boris has all the good bits, blame him |

I dont think you guys are getting the point at all.
First of all, this is not one or two every month or so, this is 30 Splits at a time every couple of months. DO the Math....!
If you want to buy a Splitty any year, or parts for that matter you will be looking around forever to find them and if you do you will be paying $$$
for your buy....;-(
I dont mind if people send them over in personal quantities.
But I do get my back up when I hear of people sending shit loads off our shores every few months.
Their is not a whole lot of early stuff getting around and to hear this does not make me smile.
The had a shite loads more early stuff than what we had and now we are going to see them rust out more of the might Splitty..
If you dont agree, well thats your problem, you try finding parts for your splitty when you want to do one up.....
|
so....how many have you personally bought to "save" them? one? none? I bet you've put no effort in but to bitch about it to others.
Considering most are dragged off farms with a tractor which would otherwise have turned to dust if they stayed here, I cant possibly see that
it's a bad thing! eventually it'll drive the price up for the ones left here which means that people will start to do up the real basket
cases.
IMHO either start buying them up yourself AND START RESTORING THEM or STFU and be glad they are going to be appreciated even if it's in another
country.

The point is we cant afford them as people like Pukkavw will pay large amounts of money for them and then get it back when they get to England, that
way he hasnt got a load of money tied up in them.
When we want to buy one to restore or for parts , we cant afford them.
We will end up importing parts from England off busses that were originally from here.
I know he is a bussiness man and this is how he makes his money,
We are enthusiasts and we cant afford to buy half a dozen busses and have them sitting in our back yards waiting till none are left.
Yes it will push up the prices of our restored busses but once you have sold the restored one how much will it cost to buy the next one???
Cheers

57 kombi your on the right track dude, (i.e:Scooping up what Im slapping down)
Its the principal of Pukka and people like him for buying most of the good forsale stuff, And I bet he doesn't tell the Seller that he is sending
it overseas???.
GREED... With him its not a passion where he is sending a couple back home for personal satisfaction.
Its to make big dollars and dont care about the concerquences of the Oz Splits that were sold here...
He 's not concerned about our VW scene in OZ. So why should we be saying its Ok for him to ship all these Splits etc to the UK??
English man you dont know the scene and how hard it is becoming to find stuff here in OZ.
I dont know how many splitts all up were sold in australia, but one thing I do know it was no where near the amount that was sold in the UK.
If you people love your splits so much why isn't their shit loads in the Uk??
And theirfore why would you want to buy from Oz. It is because you can buy them alot cheaper than what you can buy them for back home.!!!
Some of you on here have got no idea,
Ive been to England and Ive seen the yard down in Wales. Ive been to many shows and I think that the Oz people are as fanaticle as the Brits and
Europeans, but just dont have the availability to alot of things like shows, parts etc.
Thats my final words on this topic, Im getting bored, Im to busy finding parts for my Split!!!
Might have to start buying from the Brits????? Since they are buying all our stuff

Not sure about this one
This is a difficult topic. You guys need to think very seriously about this.
I live in New Zealand, but i have been living in England for the last couple of years. Before i left NZ, there were VW's for everyone, and a few
were going overseas to dedicated buyers. When i came back i tried to buy a split screen kombi to restore. Thats strange, none available - anyware!
Aparantly a couple of enterprising englishmen travelled through the country from top to bottom, and cleaned us up. Thats right, they took everything!
I was gutted!
You think that prices are getting expensive there, think how your hobby would fair if you could not even find a van, at any price! Luckily a few
enthusiasts managed to keep a few but these are obviously, expensive now.
On the other hand, with their buying power their is not much you can do.
If you do not want everything to go, buy now so future generations can enjoy the experience.

Quick Question:
I have imported 13 VW's in (Split beetles, Cab's & Karmann Cab's), am I morally obliged to export 13 to make it even, because I
think I singlehandedley (thats a new word I made up) decimated several countries suppies & increased ours... |

I do business with Australians and find those individuals I deal with to be lovely honest trustworthy people. Much more honest to deal with than my
fellow countrymen.
I also appreciate many of you don't hate us for wanting to buy your old vans.
So this isn't directed at you. It's directed at the sad minority who can make a nice forum into a place of hatred... I apologise in advance
to the decent folks.
I'm English, I used to post here a few months and more ago, but became so bored by the whinging posts bleating about vechicles being exported I
stopped posting. (Good. -Ed.)
I've lurked since then, but rarely in this forum.
So to those who complain: You say we whine, that's a joke. I've never heard such a sorry bunch of twats. Get off your arse and go and do
something, and then you might have a right to comment on what grown-ups do in the real world. Where money is on the line and you might make a bit of
profit and get a couple of old splits out of a pissing field where they've been left to rot and get them to a dude who will cherish and give life
back to it. Wake up and smell the coffee homeboys... you want your economy to ever do anything but go down then get a life and stop making racist
comments about legitimate people doing business with each other.
If you do ever check our Volkszone you'll find there is a tiny trickle of imported Splits, not a torrent, and plenty come from South Africa etc.
not just your beautiful country. By the time they get here the profit ain't huge... people do it out of love of the vechicles you sad folks, not
for big money. You should try making a living in this country...
