its going to take a long long time for Queensland to recover from this....

Brisbane too...

Houses filled with mud etc.... if the house is still there...
all contents lost...
Hundreds of cars lost...
thousands of computers lost...

No electricity--
No sewerage-
no water -
no phone or internet..

I really feel for anyone involved in the floods....

Victoria is getting floods too. Not as bad though but still.

My Friend in Kyneton had a landslide go through the back door, through the house and out the front.
Kyneton is apparently water logged. I live 10Ks out of this town and our house got damaged. So much rain that out massive 25 cm deep gutters could not take that rain
and flowed over and back against the walls. 2 story house it is. So now we have water coming out of the ceiling in 3 rooms and one of them was so bad the ceiling fell in :td:

Unlike those affected by the floods in QLD, Northern NSW or VIC, I have been able to watch from the comfort of my house in Sydney.

I can't begin to imagine the pain, suffering and loss these people are experiencing. One day having their home and loved ones, and the next losing it all. While we all feel we have something to complain about, it is nothing compared to those that have either lost loved ones, property or both.

The story that stood out to me was the 13 year old boy who was being rescued from his car, but told the rescuer to take his 10 year old brother first and handed his younger brother to the rescuer. By the time the rescuer took the 10 year old and went back for the 13 year old, it was too late. The flood waters washed him and his mother down the river.

No matter what nature throws at us, we bounce back, albeit battered and bruised. Hopefully it makes us stronger and wiser for the experience, and not to have the same repeated, or at least be better prepared for such an event.

It's events such as this that brings the true spirit out in people and makes us what we are. We are not Queenslanders, New South Welshmen, Victorians, etc. We are Australians and we do help one another when needed, and without a second thought.

I am sure that with all the help (money, food, clothing, building materials, etc) offered, all the people affected recently will find the strength within themselves to rebuild their lives and put this disaster behind them. It will take time, but time overcomes all ills.

Best wishes to all and keep safe.

Norman

I'm pretty impressed that I heard Indonesia has offered financial and military help. I know Australia sent money etc when the tsunami hit them but that is what we come to expect being a western 1st world country but when it comes back the other way it takes you by surprise. Good on them. The kiwis are already helping out according to the news up in Central Queensland, the poms (god bless us...sorry Them!) and the yanks have offered financial and military aid but according to the Defence Minister today we have more than enough equipment to cope. On the other hand I can't believe there were people complaining about the noise of the armys' helicopters!!! Get a life for chrissakes!

Local flooding is still prominent, we still have to detour to get out of edens landing on the south side but none the less dropping. The smell is bad enough here, i don't even want to imagine the stench over at brissy.

It's true. VW's do float. Look at that bug's level in the water compared to the people pushing it.

On a more serious note. Not only do flood victims have to put up with the loss of just about everything, they have to put up with low life looters.

It defeats my understanding how people can steal from others. Especially at a time like this. These people are so low they could walk under the belly of a snake with a top hat on without knocking the hat off.

penguin wants the oval shifted on sunday if the roads allow it, id say your trailer will be easier to get to than the mates in karana downs, not even sure if his house is there - they are camping down the coast & cant get home, 10m water over road one way, 15 the other, and not sure on the 3rd option, but its only 1-2 blockages now instead of 10-20 :)

His house seems structurally ok but the walls were damaged and i think are asbestos which could cause more difficulties he has no water no power and has a long wait for insurance builders plumbers electricians etc but he's got accommodation suitable to his requirements so all things considered I think all will work out well in the end

Hey Adam, hope your brother can get his house sorted out soon. Myself and a group of mates went up from the gold coast yesterday and headed out to Ipswich to lend a hand - ended up at Booval and basically ripped off every wall and roof sheeting in one lady's house as the water was up to the gutters - all the insulation in the ceiling was water logged so hopefully that helped to keep the asbestos dust out of our lungs :)

Basically there was nothing in their house that could be saved, very sad not only for the loss of property and possessions but also the families of all those people further up stream that lost love ones.

Cheers
AL

Hey Alan thanks for helping out , my brothers dissabilitys have helped him with fast tracking accommodation, and financial aid. unlike alot of other people like the holders of pensioners insurance who are finding out they are only entitled to $15000 total compensation ,it's unfortunate that these stories have been heard over and over and are still happening to those poor buggers in Victoria I just hope that all works out in the end
