195@10''
15.5mm lift so far without manifold's.
they come to life when they get to about 9mm lift.
good for of the shelf .i have already cut the manifolds in half to see what the transfer from manifold to port is like.
it will definatly need some work but it is only minor.
i will try to get the manifolds back together over the next few day's so i can test the heads with the manifolds and throttles, hopefully find some more cfm there.
i don't know what the heads do straight of the shelf as i did do a few little things in the chamber, but i don't think it would be far of what they come as.
nice pic's fatman,u got the dt's or something.
don't forget your clothes tommorrow fatty.

Good numbers, which flow bench?

Make sure the spark plug does not hit the piston.

16:1 will probably need .400 deep notches!
Hope your pistons are thick enough...and top ring is far enough away.

i started on the fma bench.but it was running out of puff for the last few reading's.
i wanted to start the new head on the same bench before getting them on the new one so i had some idea of the difference in cfm.
i should, if i can find the time. put it on the new bench on the weekend.fingers crossed.
i spent last night making a valve spring removing tool.

Surecam on the mid north coast has the equipment,
but you wont get it back in time for Warwick.
I am guessing that Crow Cams has the simulation gear also.
Any good cam people should have it.

Be interesting to see the difference between the two benches,
dont get too excited till you run them on the other bench.
Mine flowed more with the manif and thrott.
Those figures closely match mine at 10".
(179 to 184@.550 to 600" @10" with manifold and throttles).

I use one of these and an angle plate to R&R the springs,
and check for travel and bind:

nah i am not realy worried about the total cfm with that bench just wanted to compare the 2 heads to see if there was much of a change.
once i finish the jig to hold it,i quess i will see the difference.i can't really test the old head any more they have been put aside for a rainy day.
but at least i can now see the difference betweeen the 2 benches.
my spring remover ain't that good.bit's of steel and shit welded together.it il do.
pull ed the motor apart last night so hopefully i will get some new bearings today and slap it back together tonight.
question for you dave.
head studs were and when.and what friggin invention did you com up with to do em up.

Head studs were just 10mm Autocraft, and VW 8mm for the extras.

My other engine uses VW 10mm on all studs.
Ranging from the 36hp and up to 1600, there are just about any length you might need.
You can tension them to 35lbs no probs.
You will most likely need 12 point nuts though,
and make up a special ring spanner to use with your torque wrench
for tightening the hard to reach ones.

*heads are machined (still to be ported though)
*so friday night we thought we better pull out the motor so we can
rebuild the bottom end so its finished , then we can mock up
to flycut the pistons , then concentrate on porting making
manifolds etc etc

case pulled apart all cleaned (ready for assembly)

welcome to westside's engine building room(we believe in a controlled sterile environment :lol:)
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/001-3.jpg

after we paid for the new heads budgets tight (cant afford feeler gauges) so we check cam end float the westside way:crazy::crazy:
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/005.jpg

duh were did that peice go again
:crazy::crazy:
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/006.jpg

crank rods etc all back together in our purpose built facility
ready to go back into case
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/007.jpg

case halves about to go back together, we'll cut the pistons tomorrow
we should have barrells tuesday, we'll machine them (bottom end done ) then back to the heads and manifolds

Brad-this is what I came up with to do mine head stud nuts up.Welded an old 3/8" drive socket to a 7/16 ringy, exactly 6 inches from the centre of the ring.I use an inch pound tension wrench set at 170 which gave me 35 foot pounds.I tested it on a bolt and nut in the vice, using my 1/2" drive tension wrench, and they both did the nut to the same tension.

the car was 1410 last time it was weighed ,but it will be heavier now,new wheelie bars heads and od's and sod's.
i will take the weight back out when i stick some front cage legs in it.

yeh thats what i am talking about, nbturbo good idea.
haven't touch the car this week.
i pulled the bottm end back apart to get the cam and crank re-balanced.flywheel machined and get the cam checked stability wise.
hopefully get all my shit back early next week so i can put it all together again.

as per usuall leave everything to the last minute .
i have been getting everyone esles cars together for jambo and test and tunes and all that shit,so poor old junka gets rushed once again.

i have ,when i get a chance to work on it been playing around with cam timing and deck hieghts and all that jazz in order to keep the comp up around 16 ish to 1.
finally think i got it ,but i am runnig out of time.
ordered the bigger fuel pump and injector's tonight.
did my last check's for piston to valve,i had heaps of old shit layin around to machine up and test in the engine,so i am pretty happy with the finished product.now i just need to get some new pistions, hopefully get them tommoorrow and do a machine fest over the weekend an get it all back together buy monday ,then all i have to do is make extractors inlet manifolds fuel rails a few fuel lines, brakes master upgrade as i haven't had brakes for awhile now.and i might need them if all goes to plan.
if i don't have the car up to puting engine in on monday i think i will have to pull afew more allnighters to get it done, but what else is new.
