You're lucky you 'chickened out', and won't be at Wakefield Park........otherwise I'd whack you with BOTH driving gloves [dual?], and challenge you to a duel. Swing-axles at five paces would be appropriate.

I will be wearing my Kmart woollen fingerless gloves all weekend. Cool factor will not be of any concern. I bought them for last year's supersprint and left them at home. Wasnt happy.

Never mind about the "Cool factor"......It's the "Wind chill factor", Chris. Put your gloves in the car NOW, if you haven't already done so.

Of course, any roadster that I would own would be a proper British one, because men should not under any circumstances drive modern convertibles. Anything after the Triumph TR7 is no good.

The TR7 ended production in 1981. Most of them were coupes with roofs - the drophead convertible was made in very small numbers. All of them would have rusted away by now. The TR7's 2-litre Dolomite engine made 78 kW (105 hp).

As for convertibles since 1981, any decent VW enthusiast would clearly rather have a Golf Cabriolet, an infinitely better designed and better built (by Karmann) vehicle. Our models imported from 1990 to 1993 came with a 1.8-litre 70 kW engine and five-speed gearbox. The Mk3 Cabrio from 1995 had the 85 kW 2.0-litre engine from the Golf GL - more power than the TR7! The current model Golf Cabrio has the 118TSI engine - 118 kW.

Of course from 2005 there's also the VW Eos, with its power hard top and the same 147 kW engine used in the Golf GTI. In Europe they could also have the VR6 engine but sadly these were not imported here.

Men can drive Volkswagen convertibles wthout any infantile insecurities about their sexuality. Except for the New Beetle Cabrio, perhaps. But chicks love em.

I drive a new beetle cabrio with no issues at all. In fact I love driving it and the roof is down nearly all of the time and I still have the flower in the case as well.

If you feel your sexuality is defined by the type of car you drive, it is not the car that is the problem.

Yes of course you're right - I was kidding about the New Beetle Cabrio. Much rather have one of them than a bloody TR7.

I had leather driving gloves in the glove box of my '69 911 Targa. Didn't seem gay when I wore them on a few occasions, especially when I was whipping some dude in his RX3......

Wish I had driving gloves this morning, holy crap!
Hands are freezing, need like, one of those heated steering wheels or something!

Well, instead of something, driving gloves sounds like a better alternative...

An interesting thing of note is that Karmann were responsible for the styling of the TR6 (from the TR5 which shared the same body style as the TR4 and 4a).I don't know who styled the TR7 though.....probably no-one will own up:rolleyes:

Driving the 4000km old golf cabrio loaner down the F6 today. I have to confess I put the top down, cranked George Thorogood's blue highway through the bluetooth. I felt like a prize dick, and I was absolutely loving it. I couldnt stop grinning. Joy of the experience or looking at myself with scorn I dont know, but it was fun either way. Never been in a convertible of any kind before.

It was cold though, even though outside temperature was a balmy 14. The top will be up on the Hume tonight.

Michelotti designed the TR 4 body.

Other than in the rain I always drive my cab with the roof down (mainly 'cos you can't see the holes in the roof ....must see about getting the new one fitted!) and if it's cold I just put the heaters on as they work perfectly, I just can't see me getting driving gloves as my sons would never stop taking the pi*s:( . Harris Mann eh! Sounds a bit German to me, see revenge for WW2- design absolutely crap cars and bring down the British car industry completely:yes:
