Those windows definitely look like a pain in the arse to do, but definitely worth the effort!
I'll go ahead and order the seals and what not, we'll see what we can do.

hmmmm......
might do a bit more on that lid...
best helper keen as always....
brown paint came off the inside easy as.......
.......thinking the brown hornet must not have been too bothered with prep work. interesting number
no rustiness tho  .....just treated a little bit around the hinges
with converter....
and down the bottom.....at least if i can't be bothered with proper paint, the next owner won't have to worry about rust coming from
underneath......
etch primer......
in the meantime the 3 1/2 year old had taken to flying down the path on her 3 wheel push trike and throwing it sideways around the 90' bend with
opposite lock dialed in (YES SERIOUSLY  )........so enjoying the
break,..... i got carried away on the strip disc.......
.....but managed to pull myself away and start packing up........might have a look at that rear apron while the gear is out.......oh dear 
..........and considering i originally set out just to rough up the paint enough for a light coat of white..........got RATHER carried away on the
bootlid again......
gave it coat of converter too.....
managed to put it away this time tho........
and mow the lawns i had walked out to start on 6 hours earlier
.........still not sure wether to clear coat it at that, strip it bare and clear it cause it doesnt have a repair in it........or paint it "white"
sorry for boring you Mat and Mac.......but i was bored

well a foam block and paper really by hand....as said i really only set out to rough up the brown for some fun painting. it wasn't until i really dug
down with the paper till it was discovered the very lowest coats were cracking and i kinda well, sorta got into it with a worn out flapper disc on the
grinder ........those things are cool for grinding away welds
and umm, maybe bog if you're silly enough. what can i say, the sun was shinning and my bestest offsider likes being outside too. once i got the bog

Hopefully one day i will get back to it when doing a proper respray and all we will have to do is strip the paint and go from there.........what i'm

to get me interested again which really has been the goal of these boring updates
so again the sun was out and i was slowly removing the verylast of my finger prints.......mainly have this shot for reference on where to "ratify"

Man making new paint look old is a mission!
now which colour matches best....
eeewwWW ceratinly not that one....

I'm curious,
to fit a W decklid to a 1973 L bug, I'd have to change the rear apron as well?
Not that I want too, just want to understand what is required to have it fit properly and so forth...

rear apron change, with associated latch etc, then just swap hinges/hinge pins with R clips & its done, i wouldnt suggest it though

nah nothing pending on the "prop" there.....cheaper versions than this snap-on one available tho 
tried to get on the real work today.......
but NAHHHHHH....never thought i would bother with the detachable apron thing however found this in the stash i placed under mums house eons
ago........along with some nice oval bonnets, windows, doors, guards etc etc
scrubbed up to find the spot welds
worlds bestest helper on duty as always to help punch em up.....
4mm cobolt drill and some wurth $hiz
repeat where necessary (ie otherside)
only one up here on the seal channel.....
until its realized there is something holding it even after cutting the fully welded part of the two panels....
repeat as necessary........
going.....
going....
gooooooooone........
repeat as necessary...
question is tho "can it be done with the motor in situ?" 
need the panel kept nice and clean to offset my over excitment on the bootlid.......

early start to go backwards again......
got in there with pilot bit and cheapo angle head head drill for the most part.....took on a couple from the other side of the panel
using proper spot weld drill bit this time around...
so yeah it can be done with the motor still in, thank god!
stinger needed cob webs blown out. how can you not  .....and
actually haven't seen so much of the motor this complete ever really. it's either hidden away it's it's little home or with many parts removed on
the couple of times it's been out of the car.
so it was kinda cool to take in the phatness
lots of work
it's been sweet having the stoko around and laughing at how polar opposite the two cars are.......makes for some nice pics too
worlds apart....
oh that's right, was doing a job....easily distracted
getting the panel to fit without too much interference when removing/installing..
trimmed the inner edges straight up. although this bit could be left, i'm not too fussed to leave it there, more clearence the better
cut the excess seal channel back
probably carried away too much on the inner section, but removed most of the inner mounting strip
anyways, not a bad days work and can already see the amount of time/effort it will save in both fixing the panel that was taken off and future engine
removal
back going to waste in the shed again
