Hey Hellbugged,
Absolutely loving this thread - you are my hero.
Didn't realise a 'W' Deck lid would fit a '67. . . cool
No modifications necessary?

........you're just easily swayed cause it's a white
'67...........good it's helping for ideas on your own tho.
yep yep just bolt on for the deck lid
decided to update a few things seeing as it's gone this far. so it's new bearings front and rear, along with new pads and a "sizing up" for some
of the brakes components.
been into the depths of the parts fridge today to sort a few items of interest........
not for long tho .....
cro-molly drive flanges should be up to the task
capacity for press in studs or bolts ment digging deaper in the stash. will use the porsche studs (left) in the rear and screw in ones on the front
rotors...
tourque-meister got some work so it now does porsche pattern as well as wide 5 and 4 stud

bloody rain, look like crap............perfect
old bearing shells punched out
new ones knocked in with use of ground down shells....
grease seal and packed bearings
old and new caliper brackets.......new one had larger bolts for caliper so had to enlarge holes in calipers.....found correct bolts, in the rear spring plate bolt stash! (huge)
stripped down stubs
on with disc, spacer and late style "nut"
clearence all good.....
studs loctited in and cap on
add some deep 6 fuchs....and nuts
add shiney nut covers and valve cap
repeat as per necessary.....
put some sealant on both the cap end and rear entry to the stub of the speedo cable.....
gave me something to do on a Sunday anyways

yep yep ol timer, real fuch's.....but hey repos are looking on the money nowdays and makes life less stressful for not having to worry about
scratches and dings.
standard v modified on the right. TIG welded the holes and relocated to VW size. center locating hole enlasrged to fit bearing housing and faces
cleaned smooth after welding and also to VW backing plate thickness..
cleaned up and prepped bearing caps with new seals and spacers installed
fitted up nice, quite a relief
studs were too short so it's the long bolts for now
calipers needed the handbrake "ratchet" winding back to be able to fit the new pads and full thickness rotors, so were removed.
here are the modified handbrake lever and cable spacer/guide tube V standard

bracket was cut from an old chassis , new shorter line made with old ferrals and new tubing
handbrake self adjusting ratchet wound back with special tool.
can see the "spacer" step in the guide tube here. eye of the cable JUST fits through
handbrake lever is loaded onto cable before the cable (tricky fitting it on). by having the pull point further up allows the handbrake lever to pull
it far enough without running out of travel on the stop down the front....
once bolted on the caliper, the body of the caliper wont allow the cable to pop off the lever at all
all done
YAWN........repeat!

bit slow on this one but finding motivation again after a trip to Warwick.
eventually got the brakes finished and back on all 4. the original idea was to send it back to the panel dude to have the rest of the sides matched to
the doors but i kinda decided the $$$ would be better spent getting it rego'd again so had a play at home....
was looking good till the clear coat added a yellow tinge and the mismatch looked no better than before....not to mention coats bubbling, not setting
among other issues just to get it to this dissapointing reveal
got the clear coat off by rubbing in cut and polish then taking it off with wax remover to reveasl the white nice and bright BUT also MATT finish
which i was liking the look of...........so with that i gave up for a few weeks whilst working way too much....eventually getting my head back into
just doing odd jobs like the tinwear and seals back in the engine bay after the detachable apron was done. put the door seals on and doortrims to
complete the doors......oh and the bumper and re wiring tail lights had me realizing the end was in sight after all.
so today i made a real mess of the painters doors, but hey at least it's the 2 tone i was after now.....
glad it's a ratty looker, makes messing things up a win win

Hey hellbugged,
Your build is so inspirational - loving it.
So glad you've gotten "the bug" again (after Warwick).
Can't wait for more updates.

yeah yeah Johnny.......maybe not everyone needs mid mounted water pumping ovals to have fun.......anyways weren't you too scared to get in it the
other week and sent a chic'a with me instead .
wish i knew a decent car detailer to help with this buffing
thanx for the interest Old Timer......it does help
doors painted but STILL not quite right
so they got a good colour sand then cut/buff/polish/buff/cut/buff/finish of the whole lot to get it all working together.......and i'm vowing if i
have to touch it again i'll be painting witth a brush and tin of flat black ........that being said i'm finally chuffed at how it's looking
some randoms of other stuff that's been finished off (to rat standards) along the way.........
ye' ole style step scuffers
good enough originals fit nice and tight with sexy wide chromes
bright enough!
enough going on in there to tempt and entertain a the 3 year old menace
running sweet still.......
see what i mean!!........

Pardon my ignorance, but why is everyone so turned on by wide running board chrome?
I've had offers for mine once or twice, I don't see what's so special about them. Yes they look good, but is that it?
Are they rare or something?

Yeah getting hard to find...... Case of " they don't make em like they used to"
Suppose they all got tossed over the years as the boards rusted out and new ones come delivered with varying dicky bits of chrome attached
