Seriously Das you could make a nifty little book out of all of the things you've done, with these photos (I'm sure there're more you haven't posted) as a how-to kindo thing. VWMA could be interested? Either way I'd love to get my hands on some hard copies showing a chronology of progress.

I've said it before, but this is one THE best modified VW's I've ever seen. The attention to detail is just awesome. Keep the pics coming!

Thanks for all the kind words gents, they are all appreciated. I've always wanted to a full body off nut and bolt resto so may as well do it right and avoid any regrets later if I cut corners now!

Anyway, better get to it - hopefully popouts will go in today and maybe even exhaust. See how it goes - will update pics later.

Well, not a bad day. Both popouts in and both rear gaurds on. Extractors bolted up - muffler tomorrow.

Popout glass is a little scratched up (as I bought them) - they are not perfect but really....I don't mind, just can't wait to put them into good use!

Still have to trial fit up the narrowed beam when I get some more time (hence front gaurds won't go on for a while).

After bolting up the extractors looks like the rear end will have to come up an inch or two to get a little more clearance.

The rear won't come up much, just enough so I don't rip off the exhaust that cost me a pretty penny :blush

It was worth it though, can't wait to hear it roar to life!

More to come tomorrow hopefully (unless surf is cranking all morning...still should find time though to do some more work).

Hey Das, I like the idea of you trailering it to the next show for others to see...... even if it is just to make it a little higher so people don't have to get on there hands and knees to look under it.........:D

Hey Dasdubber

Now it's time to type up some istructions on those pop-outs. I haven't put mine in yet cause I'm afraid of drilling holes on the wrong spots.

Was it difficult, or a piece of cake?

Well another big day - thankfully we got the carport up last weekend - makes working under it so much more enjoyable compared to the QLD sun!

Re. popouts, it helps having two people one to hold, whilst you mark and check fit before drilling. It wasn't too difficult, I remember writing instructions way back in the tech section in response to someone's query....maybe worthwhile doing a search and if no luck let me know (I'll try and remember!)

After hitting the surf early this morning, returned to continue work on the beetle....door rubbers (around perimeter) are on, quarter window rubbers in, and more importantly that shiny stainless muffler is bolted in place!

Four supporting brackets hold it onto the block to avoid excessive vibration and placing too much stress on the flange (joint between extractors and muffler).

Oh yeah, tail-lights are on too. Dang I love that muffler :bounce

Its nice seeing it on the car rather than on my spare room floor!

Even with the sun shining its hard to catch the true depth of the colour....you really need to see it in person/flesh....and yes you will soon..........er or later. :P

I hope to have it at the show in May at Cleveland.....and definitely plan for valla and nationals next year!

Don't worry, I've left the guard beading long intentionally - will trim to fit once the rear apron goes on eventually.

Over and out.

Dasdubber great workmanship ,how much did you lower the rear and what is your ground clearance I,m welding in a 944 rear torsion tube 60mm higher and I work out I should have 150 mm ground clearance.thanks Malcolm.

Hi Malcolm, I am unsure of the exact amount of drop I performed in the rear end - I will have to measure up some areas of clearance but most likely it will be coming up about an inch some time soon.

Shot is a bit dark but you can see the stainless trim (I polished it up) and side indicators (from a Golf) are back in place.
