Swapped dizzy Matt, for one of Lukes with same style hall sensor.......not the problem.
Changed plug leads too, not it!
Disconected rev counter and shift light in case of shorts....not it
Time to take carbs off and change out those new plugs. Did 1 and 2 side first...........BUT then....
Removing the carb from 3/4 side, noticed the top carb gasket had slipped ever so slightly into the throat. I'm using the rubber type one and it was a
strip only a millimeter long on No.4, BUT happened to be on the fuel bowl edge, so leaving a small gap straight into the bowl. Turning the carb on the
side drops of fuel would pour out into the throat
So it all adds up, rich missfire at midrange until the second venturi would equalize the flow from the bowl, then as max vacumn at the top of the carb
occurs again at high rpm, the vacumn would pull fuel through from the bowl "un-metered"
finished changing back to ole faithful plugs, so don't really know which "fix it" was the cure, but anyhows, Gremlin quaranteened!
One for the "well it could be this" tech knowledge banks
Christ it's flying now

Yep yep, cool. Easy to forget how much fun they are when not running sweet.
At least I know there is nothing wrong with my ignition components after 15 years in service.........nor all of the spares for that matter
Now looking forward having time to try for some suspension improvements now......among other things

just got back from usa and had a visit to the Berg Shop and they where just about to start production on 50 5speed kits so there will be a few more
out there, they said that they have made some improvements to them to make them better. While I was there I ate some vintage licorice that had been
on the counter for several years
wow what a shop & man has mrs berg got heaps of toys she's selling

Cool Ian, very jealous. One day
Wakefield supersprint 2013
Well that was a quick 12 months ! ........bit of an update.
After the five speed went back in I had trouble keeping the oil from spilling out the breather. Was not sure if it was the newer thinner oil, the
added bulk of the ZF flicking it out or just the breather fitting not quite in the correct spot............or I had overfilled it (well I was paranoid
about cooking the axles again)
So a few changes were made before settling on a breather/catch can. After draining 100ml out of it a couple of times, the oil level settled to a happy
medium and all is well there. It now has 1/2 inch fitting and hose
Fuel pump was the next issue. Holley red after 50 thou KM.......worn out!
Replaced with a carter pump........
Sooo before the nationals trip had to replace the sump plate..........getting a little thin
Grouch beetle would need some work boots cause it had a mission to complete on the track........to run nicely and go hard. Youre not serious till you
have cookie cutters on. I needed some new tyres anyhow and a last minute decision to get all 4 ment it was quicker to just drop some rims off and pick
them up when they were ready .......roof rack and visor were also
removed.
as per Matt's thread, was another rainy road trip, but fun with me ole mate bluey!
unpacked at the track........and added some numbers.
........went racing! Ran really well (vids below).......steady 1.21.5 till lunch when I was giving Timmy (car #00) a bit of lip as he was 0.2
quicker...........naturally he went another second quicker after lunch and so I had to as well........he went 1.20.2 and I 1.20.5 in our last
sessions. Good fun!
And some video!!!!!!!!!!
this one has a lazy couple of first laps before having a go.....not sure if there is a clean lap in there. times in the high 1.21m mark
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo0zGA0Z0A4&list=UUyC9mQfe59MXucIKWzc0Urg&...
this one has some outside footage from the very early runs combined with some "in car" foortage from the final run that saw the times go to
1.20.5

Ohh....I'd better take mine off too, then.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Car looked and sounded sweet daimo; love watching a LP/swingaxle car on the track, the gold cookie cutters look awesome on the car too IMHO
Are those Bridgestone RE002s? How'd you find them?

Thanx matey's
Yes Craig, Livin on the edge bud..... Maybe a narrowed beam for the impending mid life crisis I think the vids and pics speak for themselves. Watch the key rings to
get an idea of whats going on in the corners
Col.... You have to get down there. Seat time is Awsome....
Yep yep Sean.... Just about been through the bridgestone catalogue over the years. The Fuchs had re001 and the cookies re002, yes. The new ones have
massive rain grooves but still feel good. Yeah have good feel wet or dry and still chuck plenty of water as they get worn. As per specs you could see
the compound change of the rubber as they wore. I would recommend them
