Cheers mate, your car is looking awesome as well!!

Bit more work on the kick panels today - MDF skeleton was cut to form the shape of the kicks so the material can be stretched and stapled over the supporting structure.

Ports were incoroprated due to small volume of the enclosures - may not be best possible tuning parameters but it will suffice for what I am after.

I tried changing the angle of the woofer ring to better parallel the tweeter but the limited space behind did not allow any adjustment, and if I kicked it out at the bottom my feet would hit....catch 22.

Sound deadener was brushed on to dampen resonance.

It gets dusty, I just give it a quick blow with compressed air to keep it in check!

No plans on making the kick panels to sell, just don't have the time and I don't think people would be willing to pay ~$300 for to cover the labour involved (even with using them as a template, there is a lot of stuffing around). Hence why it is good to do this myself - no labour charges ;)

Speaking of which, better start work...time to clock on for the day.

Hehehe....keep working on it, I think my mate has just convinved his better half that his beetle "needs" them!

Further work continued on the kicks - put down a few layers of chop mat and resin - a couple more layers to come before prepping them for paint.

The circled area is where I had to adjust the underlying frame so my foot has clearance for when the clutch pedal is depressed. Gotta think of these things sooner than later!!

Nice. I have space in my notch, I should spend time creating something like that too, except in wood rather than fibreglass resin cause they look like hairy monsters :P .. joking, I just have no resin skills, so I better stick to something I am more familiar with: reading the forum :blush

Octa it is not hard, just messy! My sub enclosure was the first attempt I had - and these kick panels are only the second thing I've ever fibreglassed so give it a go!

Just read some stuff on the net then dive in the deep end, thats what I did. Here is a good link to give you an idea of whats involved:

Two holes were predrilled through the base of the kickpanels (one through woofer hole and one through tweeter hole - see red circles in pic below). Stainless M6 bolts with large OD washers will be used with nylock nuts - obviously these will be fastened before screwing in the woofer etc.

On the front sections I am still to decide - either stainless fine pitch thread screws through firewall back into the kicks....or bolts through both skins of the kick through firewall (but don't want these to be too visible....hence why I am still to decide). These will be roughly in positions of purple circles.
